PFT: Redskins re-sign QB Collins
Will be looking for more official confirmation on this in the morning, but if it's true, it puts us in an interesting position when it comes to finding a back-up QB.A league source tells us that the Redskins have reached an agreement to retain the services of quarterback Todd Collins.
Collins, 36, helped lead the ‘Skins to the playoffs after starter Jason Campbell went down with a knee injury.
The Rams were believed to be interested in Collins, given that former Redskins’ assistant Al Saunders, who brought Collins to D.C., is now the offensive coordinator in St. Louis.
Collins will presumably stay in the No. 2 spot behind Campbell, but Collins provides a quality insurance policy in the event of further injury to the 2005 first-rounder.

Oh...Crap...
Hmmm...I think we stick with Berlin. That is my assumption.

Re: PFT: Redskins re-sign QB Collins
Oh, dear, looking quite the fool for releasing Ferrotte under the assumption we'd make a push for Collins, now, aren't we?
My question becomes who else can do amicably avialable on the open market?

Don't know why the release of Ferrotte should only lead to the signing of Collins (I know the Saunders link....).
There are other options.

Re: PFT: Redskins re-sign QB Collins
the release of Frerotte had nothing to do with Collins really, Frerotte was release for being rubbish last year
Collins would have been an OK backup, but there are still good QBs on the market to be had as a backup. David Carr is a free agent i believe, and you dont be a number 1 pick in the draft without some talent.

Re: PFT: Redskins re-sign QB Collins
David Carr would be great except we have no line. The poor guy has tons of talent but after getting rocked every year since being in the league, he's going to need a good line in front of him to regain any confidence.

Re: PFT: Redskins re-sign QB Collins
Too bad about Collins. He played really well for a guy that has been warming the bench for so long and he knows Saunders offense.
I like David Carr, but he does need a line and a confidence booster. He has always had a great attitude, but he may be suffering from the lack of success and too many hits at this point. I wonder if he is a free agent and if anyone is looking at him.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: PFT: Redskins re-sign QB Collins
David Carr has been released, but after being thrown to the wolves in Houston, and then he didn't show much last year, I don't see too many teams looking at him. He's now become a journeyman backup QB, who has the skills, but I think his head is out of the game. He can probably make a play or two, but at this point, he's not going to win anything for you.
Of course, given our choices for a #2 QB... well he has to be better that Frerotte, right?
