Please trade for Tony Scheffler
Tony Scheffler likely next out Dove Valley’s door
By Mike Klis
Brandon Marshall is gone. And tight end Tony Scheffler may be following him out the Dove Valley doors. Scheffler, the Broncos’ top pass-catching tight end, is close to signing his restricted free-agent tender with the Broncos, a move that _ as the Marshall situation taught us _ is a formality step preceeding the team’s ability to trade him.
At that point, the Broncos will have completed an Holy Trinity overhaul of sorts as Jay Cutler, Marshall and Scheffler _ three of the biggest weapons from the Mike Shanahan era _ will have been traded away in a span of 13 months.

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
He could be had for a 4th or 5th round pick. Verry Athletic good hands. Proven and cold give you just at much or more than Gresham or my personal favorite Gronkowski, but he comes at a 4th or 5th round pick price instead of a second.

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
I think we are considering. Especially since the only real report from any writer or such for any team was Jim Thomas speculating Shef could come to the Rams.
Would love it though if we could pick him up for like one of our 5ths or even a 4th. Would address a big need.

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
Sam Bradford in the first, Javhid Best in the 2nd, and Tony Schefler in the 4th? I love the way that sounds.

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
Magic question. How much money does the guy want. If its a lot, forget the rams making the move, regardless of how low the cost is in picks. Welcome to the era of ownership uncertainty.

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
Hes a good talent, instant starter, great ability to get open and for the price (in picks) we should do this. We did save money by dumping contracts last year, and this guy is worth an investment imo, considering what he brings to the table.

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
I don't care what price he asks for in terms of a contract, it won't be anything that breaks the bank. If we can get him for a 5th or even two 5th, we better jump on that. If he's available for anything close to that he needs to be traded for, especially when we have the best valued pick in the round and should be able to out bid anyone else.
I believe!

Re: Please trade for Tony Scheffler
When Santonio Holmes can be had for a fourth round pick, I think Scheffler's market value needs to be readjusted. His team has been actively looking to trade him for what seems to have been the best part of a year and as far as we know, they don't have any takers as yet. I'd offer a fifth providing it works out fiscally.

Tony Scheffler will sign his tender today, a transaction formality that transfers the Broncos' tight end from restricted free agency to the trading block.
Brandon Marshall, the Broncos' No. 1 receiver, signed his $2.512 million tender Tuesday and was traded today to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for second-round picks in the 2010 and 2011 drafts.
Scheffler signed his $1.176 million tender today and faxed it to Broncos headquarters, with the understanding the Broncos need to control his rights before they can trade him.
The Broncos hope to get a third-round pick in return for Scheffler, whose 13.7 yards per catch tops all tight ends since he came into the league in 2006.
They hoped to get a first round pick for Marshall, but didn't. Scheffler is good but not the same caliber of player. I think a fourth would do it, but I'd also be tempted to try a fifth this year and a conditional pick in 2011. There are some good tight ends in this draft in the second to fourth round range that are probably going to drive the price down slightly.
