Re: Predict Justin Blackmon's Pro Day 40 Time
So let me see if I have this straight:
Before his pro day, he was going to go between #2 and #6.
After his pro day, he is going to go between #2 and #6."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Predict Justin Blackmon's Pro Day 40 Time
So with all the tape available on Blackmon, you truly believe that NFL teams are going to trade up based on him running a 4.46 when most estimates were in the 4.50 range prior to today?
I just have a hard time believing that NFL teams would start trading away the farm based on 1 run that is .04 faster than expected.
There's the same chance of Blackmon being available at #6 today as there was yesterday."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Predict Justin Blackmon's Pro Day 40 Time
No. I think he was a #2-#25 before his pro day
and he's a #2 through #25 after.
Every year people act like this is a science. Every year they pretend they know more than they know. Every year a guy falls and the pundits act like every NFL team screwed up because all the boards had him going in a spot. What they fail to admit is that none or may 1-2 internet gurus actually ever talked to the prospect and coach. How many sat at his practices? None probably.
Remember when Aaron Rodgers was going in the top 10?
Show me a mock draft from last year that was made more than a week before the draft and had 7 picks right. I've never seen one that was that correct. But every person that makes a mock draft argues they have all the facts and knows exactly what every NFL team is thinking. Even though they've never spoken to any of them.

Good. So then you agree this 40 time had little impact on his draft day slotting.

Neither changes the tape and interviews that actual professionals use to determine their picks."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Predict Justin Blackmon's Pro Day 40 Time
The only way this time mattered was if he ran really slow. A good time leaves his stock unchanged.

Re: Predict Justin Blackmon's Pro Day 40 Time
I heard he ran a 4.8 which is fast enough... he's a top 5 pick IMOSporting News' Russ Lande confirms Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon's "official" 4.46 Pro Day forty time will likely be adjusted by the NFL to account for the fast surface in Stillwater.
Blackmon's forty time, clocked no slower than 4.51 according to NFL Network's Mike Mayock, will likely have at least an extra .02 tacked on after scouts make the adjustment. Long speed will not be an NFL deterrent to Blackmon, however, and it's especially impressive that he weighed in at 215 pounds -- up eight lbs. from the Combine -- and still clocked in the 4.4s. Expect Blackmon to be a top-15 pick in April's draft. Mar. 9 - 6:26 pm et

Justin Blackmon impresses scouts at Oklahoma Sate's pro day

Russ Lande Sporting News
Justin Blackmon went into Oklahoma State's pro day workout Friday as the top-rated wide receiver for the 2012 NFL draft—and came out of it running fast enough to make sure no other prospect will catch him.
Sources at the workout told Sporting News that Blackmon ran both of his 40-yard dash attempts in the mid-to-high 4.4-second range. Even though those 40 times likely will be adjusted based on the fast surface, it still was an impressive showing.
In addition to running well, Blackmon also showed explosiveness. He vertically jumped 35 inches and broad jumped 10 feet 4 inches. The skills he has displayed in drills ease any concerns he lacks the quick twitch and speed needed get consistent separation from defensive backs and make big plays in the NFL.
For a 6-1 receiver, Blackmon has great playing strength and has consistently shown the ability to run through would-be tacklers to gain yards after contact. He has excelled at winning jump-ball battles over cornerbacks, so the explosiveness he showed Friday reinforces what stood out while evaluating him on film.
Ultimately, what Blackmon did during games at Oklahoma State is the reason he remains an elite prospect and a surefire top-10 pick. Now he has eliminated any lingering doubts about his speed.
Not surprising, Blackmon ran good routes and displayed natural, strong hands while plucking passes from former Oklahoma State star quarterback Brandon Weeden, an intriguing prospect in his own right.
Weeden once again proved the only concern with him is his age (28). He was consistently accurate throwing the ball and showed the arm strength needed to make every NFL throw with ease. One scout in attendance, however, noted Weeden's arm doesn't quite match the zip of elite passers such as the Bears' Jay Cutler. Although his age will prevent him from being a first-round pick, Friday's performance probably locked Weeden into a second-round pick.
