Rams also hosting James Butler on friday

St. Louis, while trying gamely to persuade cornerback Ron Bartell to stay for approximately $6 million a year, was prepared to lose him if a team was willing to offer more. In the meantime, coach Steve Spagnuolo is set to host his former strong safety with the Giants, James Butler, on a Friday visit, along with a rising star of this free-agency crop -- 25-year-old center Jason Brown, formerly of the Ravens.

i think everyone saw this coming.
Butler played well under Spagnuolo, and is a position of need on the St Louis D
it just makes too much sense not to sign him

As the great HUb said, "It makes too much sense to happen, so it probably won't"

It'd be great if it could happen. We should have stability at the safety position for years if we get Atogwe to sign a long term deal. I guess worst case, we have a good combo for a year. Easy to guess he'll be looking for a similar deal that Gibril Wilson got, doesn't seem outragous. Pull for this signing and a Raven.

As far as Bartell, that's about a quarter less than the Hayden deal. Can't really blame the Rams for trying to get him as cheap as possible, do wish it would have happened though.

I don't think he'll be looking for Wilson money. I'd say a modest price, he's probably in or on the cusp of the echelon of this year's Free Agent class, but that doesn't make him a special player. He's solid enough, he's consistent and I think that's where the buck stops.

He'd be a welcome addition at the right price.

No reason for him not to. If they're seen at about the same talent level than why not? Landry from Baltimore appears to be the only better safety that could be a FA, and he's an RFA. Haven't looked up if he's been tendered. Gibril Wilson isn't a special safety either. The "specialist" safety on the market was Brain Dawkins, of years past. Which safety, if any do you think should get Wilson type money?

Jim Leonhard is another safety people are looking at but again he is nothing special, and is only getting interest because he looked good in the playoffs playing for the Ravens alongside Ed Reed
