Rams bringing in Patriots DE/OLB Tully Banta-Cain for a visit?
Being reported by FFLiveWire.com as cited in the Boston Glove...
The Rams have made outside linebacker/defensive end Tully Banta-Cain an early priority, as they are hosting him on a free-agent visit today in St. Louis.
"The jet was smoking first thing this morning," said James Sims, Banta-Cain's agent.
Sims said Banta-Cain is intrigued by the Rams.
"They would bring out the best in Tully and allow him to do what he does best, use his versatility as a 4-3 end, or as a 3-4 linebacker," he said. "They like his versatility and they pose a great opportunity for him, which is very important to Tully in addition to a potential financial package. He?s been biding his time in New England.?
Sims added that Banta-Cain has also received interest from the Steelers, Dolphins and *****, among others. He said Banta-Cain hasn't ruled out a return to the Patriots.

Hes got the youth everybody likes and comes from a winning organization, both things that can help out the rams. If hes got a decent set of wheels on him he could be real nice on the strong side.

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
03/02/2007
So much for that slow start for the Rams in the free agency and trading period.
By mid-afternoon today at Rams Park, the team had already traded for Detroit defensive end James Hall, and brought in wide receiver Drew Bennett of Tennessee and defensive end-linebacker Tully Banta-Cain of New England for free agent visits.

Not a big name, but if, that is IF the Rams made him an offer, would that be a small hint of Haslett wanting to play with the 3-4 hybrid situation. We kept hearing about it last year, but it never materialized (course with JK in the middle, how could it?).

His own agent said that the Rams like his versatility as a 4-3 defensive end and 3-4 outside linebacker. Thus, he probably would not be lining up as a SAM linebacker in the 4-3. If anything, as HUb said, this might be an indication of the Rams being willing to give more 3-4 looks.

If rams go to a 3-4 then iam for signing him.
If they are looking at him in 4-3 LB or DE then dont bother.

Unless they sign some big mofo for a NT, I wouldn't want to see them play a 3-4. Keep Smith instead, save the cash.

Re: Rams bringing in Patriots DE/OLB Tully Banta-Cain for a visit?
well the kid is a 6"2, 250lb de-lb, who rushs the passer, the rams said he would be used as a bull hybrid , the position that roanall smith played. but the rams wanted to keep smith, (maybe as a backup lb), and have cain as a situation lb, who would be sent in for their blitz packages. but again, how much money for a part time player, if the starter, chillar, is getting the minimum. but it was mentioned maybe cain is taking chillars starting job and religating him to substitute duties.
