Rams Draft Prospects Dine In Style

Rams draft prospects dine in style

    BY JIM THOMAS
    Thursday, April 14, 2011

It's unusual, but not unheard of, for NFL teams to bring in their draft prospects all at once for visits like the St. Louis Rams do. They had defensive prospects in Tuesday and Wednesday, and offensive prospects in Wednesday and Thursday.

But when it comes to dinner, no one does it quite like the Rams.

Once again, Rams draft prospects dined in the suite of the late team owner, Georgia Frontiere, on the second floor of the Rams Park facility.

"Dinner went great," said Miami (Fla.) cornerback Brandon Harris. "I had a very enjoyable time with the (coaching) staff and I met a lot of great guys that came here also from other schools."

The meals were catered by Ruth's Chris Steak House.

"I'm a big steak eater," Harris said, laughing. "So they definitely set us right. They had the steak, spinach, and macaroni and cheese. It was real nice."

The food was good, and the setting was even better. The luxurious main room of Frontiere's suite features a fireplace and a long wooden bar.

"Yeah, that was very different," Harris said. "I actually heard a lot of people talking about it. They were like, ‘Man, who stays in here?' They had that long bar, and you're looking over the practice field. Oh man, it was nice."

All told, the Post-Dispatch confirmed visits from 19 prospects this week. Here's the updated list:

Running back:Alex Green, Hawaii; Jamie Harper, Clemson; Mark Ingram, Alabama; Mikel Leshoure, Illinois; Stevan Ridley, LSU; Daniel Thomas, Kansas State.

    Wide receiver: Julio Jones, Alabama.

Offensive line: Jason Kelce, Cincinnati (G/C); Daniel Kilgore, Appalachian State (G); Will Rackley, Lehigh (G).

Defensive end: Cameron Jordan, California; Robert Quinn, North Carolina; Jabaal Sheard, Pittsburgh; Aldon Smith, Missouri.

    Defensive tackle: Corey Liuget, Illinois

    Linebacker: Mason Foster, Washington

Secondary: Marcus Gilchrist (CB/S), Clemson; Brandon Harris, Miami (Fla.) (CB); Da'Norris Searcy (S).

There will be one more round of draft visits next week, when local prospects visit April 20. Unlike the regular visits this week, the local prospects are allowed to work out.

I think that short wide receiver list speaks volumes. Either we're trying to keep someone under the radar, or we don't feel there's a whole lot of guys who can make a difference in the draft this year.

Mark Ingram, Alabama pops out on that list but look for Taiwan Jones to be drafted in the 3rd/4th round and be a great change of pace.

An intriguing name for me on that list is Da'Norris Searcy

There was talk that Devaney "loves" a particular DB this year, but we have had no information as to who it is... maybe Searcy is going to be our new FS?
