Rams drafting 25th?
I am trying to read the draft seeding and it seems like the Rams go below all non-playoff teams and those teams that lost in the wildcard round, but ahead of all the other teams except Minnesota that lost in the Division round. I think that makes the order 25, is that about right?

Re: Rams drafting 25th
I would think the Rams would go after Minnesota, since the Vikings were seeded lower than the Rams (hence why they played Philly, the number one seed).

I think we are looking at (for the 2nd straight year), the 26th pick.

Re: Rams drafting 25th
Tiebreakers for us and Minny goes first to Strength of Schedule so the playoff seeding doesn't matter. Look at #2 and #3. Miami beat Cleveland but they have the same record and Miami had a lower strength of schedule and thus gets #2.
And, actually, ESPN currently has St. Louis picking #19, ahead of teams that made the playoffs.Last edited by DJRamFan; -01-18-2005 at 08:56 PM.

Re: Rams drafting 25th
So I've been told that the draft order is set by regular season finish for the 30 teams that don't make the Super Bowl, and then the Super Bowl teams get #31 and #32 respectively. Therefore, it seems as if the Rams are choosing at the 19th slot since they didn't make the Super Bowl.

19th instead of 26th? I've never been more glad about being wrong. In this draft those extra 7 spots could be the difference between getting what we need and taking what's available.

However, here's a trade I would think about:

If Jamaal Brown is available at 19, I think he'll be there at 24. Dallas (20), Jax (21), Baltimore (22), and Seattle (23) aren't in need of O-line help. So this should, in effect, give us the 1st round impact OT we need, plus a jump of 15 spots with our 3rd pick.
The only kink I see is that there's not a lot of motivation for Green Bay in this scenario if they're looking for Favre's successor in the 1st round. There probably won't be any QBs lifted between 19 and 23, so it wouldn't be helping the Packers a lot. But if they're going a different direction, like LB or S, those spots could make a difference."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

I'm happy with a #19 pick, we should be able to get someone useable for next year.

Re: Rams drafting 25th
We need an OT bad,but that dosnt mean Martz will take one, or a line backer. If Martz picks a wide reciever I wouldnt be shocked.

If the past 5 years has shown us anything, Martz will shock us all come April.

Re: Rams drafting 25th
The front office seems to have a policy of not taking first round offensive lineman unless it's a left tackle. We have a glaring need at right tackle that I think we desperately need to address in the first round if the guy is there, but I'm tempted to think that the front office won't go there, especially considering (1) Turley says he wants to come back and (2) the horrible defensive performance to end the year.

Nick enlighten me on the Turley situation.I heard he would never play a down again for the Rams after the Martz security thing.

He says he wants to come back and will be preparing to play in 2005, so that's all I really know about it.
