Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

I thought about working on another mock draft, but it occurred to me that my latest projection, at least for the Rams, wouldn't differ that much from my previous one. So I thought instead, it might be more fun to get everyone's thoughts in a "buffet" like mock thread.

Your job is simple: I've listed various options for each of the Rams' selections in the first three rounds. Choose the selections you'd prefer from the list provided. If you'd like to continue and post what your Day Three would look like, go for it. I didn't include Day Three options just because those lists would be huge.

Please don't respond with "That guy on your list isn't going to be there" because it only serves to derail the threads. I'm listing the maximum possible options at need positions that I think have a chance of being available at these picks, simply to allow for variety. Also, for the purposes of this concept, let's work on the assumption that a trade down doesn't happen, even if we feel it's likely. Projecting picks acquired via trades was too varied to consider in this exercise, so let's stick with the picks available.

So, show me your plate! What are you picking on this buffet?

Re: Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

    I love this!

    1.2 Sammy Watkins
1.13 Justin Gilbert (A Donald is very tempting, but K. Langford is pretty good for us)
    2.44 Deone Bucannon
3.75 Trai Turner (you overlooked him unless you think he's 4-7 round)

If this can happen we don't need to make any trades. We don't have that many holes. We need to add depth beyond these picks. Such as RB, QB & secondary.

    Go Rams!

Re: Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

I thought this would be easier to pick than usual but somehow I seem to be having more internal struggles than before. Also, good job on the ground rules. Here's how mine would look:

    1.2 Sammy Watkins
    1.13 Hasean Clinton-Dix
2.44 Antonio Richardson (you have him twice so he's gotta be good)
    3.75 Louchiez Purifoy

Two offense and two defense without reaching too far. If there's one free agent signing or you give me a week that list will be completely different. Either way, I love the concept.

    1.2 Jake Matthews
    1.13 Hasean Clinton-Dix
    2.44 Jordan Matthews
    3.75 EJ Gaines

Matthews steps in and plays LT if Long isn't ready to start the season(If that happens the G we take in the 5th plays LG) or if he is he starts at LG. Dix is the center fielder we desperately need. Matthews is too much value at that pick. Gaines is great value at a position of need. In the 4th I take Aaron Murray. In the 5th we take a G.

Going with Clowney at 2, Donald at 13, Buchanon at 44, and either Dakota Dozier or Cyril Richardson at 75.

Obviously this is subject to change, but I love it right now.

Re: Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

Man, this thread is awesome. Wouldn't it be great if the Rams front office was given a list of players that were available at each pick and could go from there? Anyhoo, here's my choices:

    Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
    Hasean Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama
    Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State
    Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska

For fun, just looking over your available players, here's my top 3 Big Board:

1.2 - Sammy Watkins, Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews
1.13 - Aaron Donald, Justin Gilbert, Darqueze Dennard
2.44 - Gabe Jackson, Allen Robinson, Bradley Roby
3.75 - Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Aaron Murray, Ed Reynolds

Interesting to note, my first choice mock I went with BPA at a position of need except for 1.13, where I rate players higher, but feel we really need a rangy safety to get our defense to the next level.

With my Big Board, here are some alternative mocks:

    Best Player Available -
    Watkins
    Donald
    Jackson
    Jean-Baptiste

BPA with a S in the top 3 rounds -

    Watkins
Dennard (I like him for our defense over the more talented Gilbert)
    Jackson
    Reynolds

Maybe the top WR isn't the biggest need -
    G.Robinson
    Dennard/Donald
    A.Robinson
    Jean-Baptiste

If we traded back and added another second round pick I take another CB

Re: Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

Really cool exercise Nick! Anyways, here we go:

1.2 - Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
1.13 - Aaron Donald, DT, Pitt
2.44 - LaMarcus Joyner, FS, FSU
3.75 - Keith McGill, CB, Utah

I would thoroughly enjoy a draft like this. Robinson is going to be a special NFL player. Donald is going to dominate from day 1, imagine pairing him with our already NFL best defensive line? Joyner is a beast in the backend and cements our DB room. McGill is a guy with huge size and a CB skill-set. Big time sleeper.

Re: Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

As per the usual nice thread Nick, my mock is different than what I believe but within your rules here goes...

    1.2 - Watkins
    1.13 - Lewan
    2.44 - Hyde
    3.75 - Purifoy

When this point is reached in the real draft I expect to have two or more bonus picks by the end of this round. But with the picks available I think this would address many of our most glaring weakness and turn what I hope will be a strength (WR's) into a slam dunk if our guys develope properly. Would be happy with Evans/Lewan from that first round as well. Then address our other areas of need further on, in this deep draft should be able to come out of this with about 8 to 10 really worth-while prospects.

Re: Rams Mock Draft Buffet: Pick your plate!

    My own personal preference...

    Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
    Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State
    Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State
    Joel Bitonio, OT, Nevada

My thoughts on Matthews are well documented in other threads, so I won't elaborate on them too much here. He would start Day One at either RT or LG before eventually replacing Long at LT, perhaps as soon as 2015.

Dennard becomes the top corner in this secondary the second he steps on the practice field, IMO. He's as close to a shut down corner prospect as you get. Janoris and Trumaine fight to see who the other starter is; this gives the Rams a great set of three corners for passing situations.

Bucannon has prototypical size, a great wingspan, and very good vertical; he could be a very competent center fielder on the back end of the secondary. I feel like his flaws can be coached up under this staff.

I originally listed Bitonio as a tackle, but he could play any of the five positions on the line, and the Rams specifically worked him out at center at his pro day; he'd be an interior lineman on this unit.

Probably not the most realistic line-up in terms of predicting what the Rams will do, but that would be my plate.

That's scary. I had Bucannon as much more athletic than Dahl with better size as well. Based on where we took TJ McDonald last year I think that is where Jeff Fisher values safeties. C-Dix and Pryor haven't been climbing the charts lately so I thought Bucannon may be on the radar at that point in the draft. Sorry I passed on Dion Bailey, can you forgive me?

    Go Rams!
