    Ramsong Mock 1.0

I never think it's too early for mocks, and even though they are usually ridiculous speculation, I think it's fun and generates some debate. So here goes:

Round 1: Ndamukong Suh, DT Nebraska - Whether or not we pick #1 overall...Whatever it takes to get this guy, we must do it, even if it means trading up to get him. He is a freak of nature. On top of that, he's intelligent, articulate, a superb athlete and fits the 4 Pillars to a tee.

And we can't be afraid to draft another DT despite Kennedy, Carriker (playing out of position), Pickett etc. and their results.

I think he would instantly make Ryan, Long, Lauranitis and Company a better and potent front 7. Starter from day 1.

Round 2: Dez Bryant, WR OK State - This one is iffy because many feel he is a top 10 talent, but he just may slip into the top of the 2nd with the NCAA suspension...Just might put off some NFL execs.

We need to be drafting BPA available regardless of position, because we are desperate for playmakers on BOTH sides of the ball. Bryant just happens to fit a need as well. Big, fast, strong. There have been some questions about his hands, but that's something that can be coached.

Alternates here (if we go WR) include Golden Tate, ND / Brandon LaFell, LSU / Damian Williams USC & Aurelious Benn, ILL (who was hurt by the wacky offensive system at ILL and lack of a productive QB this year.)

Round 3: Tim Tebow, QB Florida - OK, before you start ripping me, please hear me out. By round 3, Bradford, Locker, Claussen, McCoy will all probably be gone. Tebow may as well, but if he is there at the top of round 3, you almost HAVE to take him.

I keep hearing about his mechanics and delivery. Trust me, these are things that can be fixed at the NFL level, at least with the right coach.

One thing you can't fix, is the desire and will to win. This guy has that in spades. He is the type of guy that will put a team on his shoulders and absolutely carry them to a win. When was the last time we had that at Rams Park?

His footwork is not an issue, as he is very mobile and athletic. I want a guy like this on my team, the perfect example of BPA and great value at the top of round 3.

QB alternates here include Dan LeFevour (another favorite), Tony Pike and Zac Robinson. A deep class for QBs.

Round 4: Toby Gerhart, RB Stanford - This guy is a stud, and may fall to the top of round 4. He would be the perfect compliment and ultimate replacement for Jackson. Bruising runner and good pass catcher, plus the dude can block. He also throws the ball well.

Options here at RB include Noel Devine, but I think round 4 is a little high for Devine because of his size. He would be a great change of pace back though.

Alternate picks would be DE and OLB - BPA.

Round 5.1: Roddrick Muckelroy, OLB Texas
Round 5.2: Alex Carrington, DE Arkansas State

These two guys have size, speed, are good BPA candidates and also fit needs. Remember, we are drafting at the very top of each round so Muckelroy is almost like a 4th rounder, which is where he is projected to go.

You could also take him at the top of round 4 and slide Devine or another RB into round 5.

Any other picks in rounds 6 and 7, compensatory or not, you could use for offensive line depth and maybe a tight end.

OK, I'm all ears, bring it on...

    Couldn't agree more on Suh.

Tebow? I live in Orlando, Ive seen him play in person, not an NFL QB. I know people say it all the time, but hes not... but at round 3? Might be worth it even if hes a wildcat guy- would put rears in the seats- but i see the Jags taking him in round 2 if hes there, no question.

I think we should go after Shipley if he's there in round 2.

And do you really think Gerhart will be there at 4? If he is, awesome, but I don't see it happening.

I think we'll just have to disagree on Tebow...but you're right, I forgot about the Jags, they are almost a lock to take him at some point just to put fans in the seats. Sad that they don't have fans show up when they are in the playoff hunt. I think the Rams fans would take 7-5 at this point, agreed?

Shipley is a very very good player and shouldn't be overlooked. Add him to my list.

As far as Gerhart, well, hate to say it, but as far as I know, the guy is caucasian, and when is the last time a white RB did anything in the NFL?

    <sounds of birds chirping>

The perception of that myth may play in the favor of anyone wanting to draft him later rather than sooner.

    Welcome to the board, Ramsong!

With the Rams presently slotted to pick first overall, we'd be guaranteed Suh. I think that's a very good choice in round one, and right now that's the way I'd lean as well.

After that though, I have doubts that everyone you've projected will be there for the Rams, up until Carrington.

I don't think Bryant's suspension is going to cause him to slip to the second round. I expect him to be off the board in the top 10-15 picks, unless something else happens this offseason to drastically change his stock.

I'm really not very interested in Tim Tebow as a quarterback, and I've heard the argument made by a number of different people. I just don't see him successfully making the transition to starting NFL QB very well.

Gerhart and Muckelroy would be solid picks, but again, at this point I don't see them being available where you have us selecting them. So much can change between the Senior Bowl, Combine, and workouts, but right now I'd guess both will be off the board at least a round earlier than you have us taking them.

So I like where your head is at, but I'm just not sure how realistic some of the projections are. Then again, you can probably say that about every mock; that's why they're so fun!

Thanks Nick, i hope I'm more welcome here than at the PD site! ha ha

I forgot that Tebow will almost surely be picked by the jags at some point, so in round three I'd be happy with Lefevour, Pike or Robinson.

One thing I've noticed in recent years, is there are guys whom everyone are certain is going to be drafted at a particular spot, and they slide, slide and slide some more into a round that no one expects.

Many people thought Lauranitis and Maleuga wouldn't last until the second, and BOOM, there they were for the taking.

That's why I'm so optimiistic in my drafting!

WR in the 2nd could also go to Danario Alexander. I'd be happy with him instead of Bryant or the others I listed.

Like I said about Muckelroy, you could take him at the top of the 4th instead of Gerhart, and pick a RB like Devine in the 5th.

My main emphasis was on playmakers because we are so desperate for them. And yes, many things can change between now and then. Too many variables, but it doesn't stop the speculating!

But when was the last time there was a white RB heisman contender? lol

I really think if we can get Suh and Shipley, everything else is rather superficial- unless Gerhart is there, of course.

What about QB? one might ask... I would support getting a guy like Pike in the 2nd. Cause, you know, the Rams staff is just keeping their ears peened for my support... lol

everything I've been reading about Shipley says he'll go in the 3rd or 4th, because of his size he's slated as a slot receiver, so many teams will pass on him as a #1 receiver. Kinda like a Kevin Curtis-type guy.

If we go QB in the 2nd (Locker?) and Shipley is there in the 3rd, that would be VERY sweet.

Suh-Locker-Shipley-Muckelroy - ha ha ha I would be tickled blue & gold

    Welcome Ramsong!

The first guy that comes to mind is Mike Alstott, although he transitioned to a FB, which is something that may happen to Gerhart as well. As far as the Rams go, we tried that experiment with Leonard and failed, so I doubt we go in that direction again.

As far as the rest of your draft goes, I would be delighted with some of those picks, but would be utterly amazed if they fell to us in those rounds. I've seen Muckelroy going as high as the late second round, so him falling to us in the fifth would be a miracle.

Good start though, and keep at it!

Would Locker be there in the second? He's being rated as a top prospect.

Though, now I think about it, what teams are there interested in drafting a QB high? Maybe Seahawks as tutelage to Hasselbeck. Vikings. Redskins. Browns. Anyone else?

    Re: Ramsong Mock 1.0

    Welcome bro.

I like the picks too, excluding Tebow but I think in Round 2 we go QB. #1 I don't think Bryant will be there and #2...we need a QB of the future and I think with the plethora of QBs this year, we'd be hard-pressed not to find a young talented QB (especially since we need to get a QB of the future).

P.S. No way Locker will be there in the 2nd.

Dez bryant wont be availible then sorry to say, I also think we should take a QB in the second, McCoy and Pike will both fall to the second in my opinion, and if bradford doesnt go to the combine for what ever reason he might fall to the second also. If we were to take a wr in the second though i would rather have Golden Tate.

As always, a big yes on SUH.

I don't understand why people feel the need to group Kennedy (a bust), Carriker (a player who's been held back by injuries) and Pickett (a pretty solid player) together. In any event, none of them were taken by the current Front Office, so I don't think they'll impact the choice.

Round 2: Dez Bryant, WR OK State - This one is iffy because many feel he is a top 10 talent, but he just may slip into the top of the 2nd with the NCAA suspension...Just might put off some NFL execs.

Ugh! I'm so sick of hearing this garbage. I used to play intra-mural football. Nobody wanted to win more than me. I fired up my team every week and we won EVERY game my Junior year. Guess what? I'm not in the NFL, and never could be.

Round 4: Toby Gerhart, RB Stanford - This guy is a stud, and may fall to the top of round 4. He would be the perfect compliment and ultimate replacement for Jackson. Bruising runner and good pass catcher, plus the dude can block. He also throws the ball well.
He'd be a great pick at this point, but I truly doubt he'll last this long.

Sadly, Kennedy and Pickett are doing great just with other teams....perhaps coaching had something to do with that. Solid draft apart from Dez Bryant he WILL go in the top 10 regardless of the suspension unless he has a horrible combine.

Pickett is. Kennedy is on his 4th team and generally isn't.

I disagree with drafting Bennett; he won't correct the "youth" problem in our receiver corps, and I disagree with taking Tebow; he lacks the mechanics to be a productive NFL quarterback.
