Re-Do The NFL Draft Your Way

Using the picks as they have fallen, how would the Rams have drafted if you were making the calls. With the players on the board at each pick, who would you have gone with?

    1.02- Jason Smith- OT

He's a big agile LT who fills a big need and an important position on the football field. He's a great prospect and should take over at LT after Barron walks away a bust for the Rams. In the incredibly off chance Barron proves himself as a good LT, I think with some coaching, he could be a great RT.

    2.03- Rey Maualuga- MLB

I know that there are questions about his coverage and his ability to play 3 downs. It's all false. He is an impact player and a big time force on the defense. He garnered all that attention, despite sharing the spotlight and putting up the numbers competing with 2 other stellar LB's. Laurinaitis is a solid pick and fits in nicely with Spags system, where he will be Antonio Pierce: productive, solid and unspectacular. Still, when you have a chance to get a defensive leader who strikes fear in the hearts of an offense, you take him.

    3.02- Jarron Gilbert- DT

He is a stellar athlete (he can jump out of a pool and land on his feet). He also has enough of a frame that he can put on some extra weight and be a force rushing the passer or stopping the run. If not, they could use his athletic ability on the DE rotation.

    4.03- Austin Collie- WR

I like his game. He'd be a nice compliment to our speedy guys. He's a slower, possession guy.

    5.24- Duke Robinson- G

Are you kidding me? This guy was a late first round/ early 2nd talent just days before the draft. He's a big, big man and would be an eventual starter for us, as early as this year. He'd probably be my favorite pick of the draft.

Round 6 and 7... it's a crap shoot, I trust our Front Office.

Anyway, that's the route I would have gone. I think we improve our lines and front 7 a TON with those big 4 picks. Also, I think we get a WR that is different from the ones we have right now.

I may have taken Ramses Barden over Fletcher in Round 3, Tom Brandstater in Round 5 instead of Foster, and a DB in Round 6 instead of Null.

    Jarron Gilbert for Fletcher

    Cornelius Ingram for Scott

    Herman Johnson/Duke Robinson for Foster

Would be a few changes I would have made if it were me, but I'm happy with our pull.

Oh, I'm pretty happy too, I think they did a good job, just not EXACTLY how I would have done it.

To say, oh, I trust them kinda takes away from the point of this thread, which is, if you were running the show, what would you have done. It's not complaining, just for fun.

Re: Re-Do The NFL Draft Your Way

I would have picked Mark Sanchez and then traded him to The Jets for their first (#17) and an extra 2nd (#52) this year also. My picks would have been as follows:

    1. (#17) Michael Oher

    2. (#35) James Laurinitis

    3. (#52) Sean Smith

    4. (#66) Jarron Gilbert

    5.(#103) Dorell Scott

    6. (# 160) Jamon Meredith

    7. ( #196) Keith Null

    8.( #211) Chris Ogbonnaya

If the Rams just stood pat, my selections would be:

    1.) Jason Smith

    2.) James Laurinitis

    3.) Jarron Gilbert

    4.) Dorell Scott

    5.) Jamon Meredith

    6.) Keith Null

    7.) Chris Ogbonnaya

    Aaron Curry
    Ebben Britton
    Brad Fletcher
    Vaughn Martin
    Andrew Gardner
    Styker Sulak
    Zack Follet

But really I have no beef with our draft as it stands.

Re: Re-Do The NFL Draft Your Way

    1. Smith - I like the guy as long as you can get a quality MLB at #2.
    2. Laurinaitis - he is a safer pick than Rey with instant team leadership
    3. Fletcher - honestly, he doesn't excite me but he's a quality project for this defense.
    4. Jamon Meredith as our RT for 2010 and later (yes I know he went much later but I'm just being honest) I would be thrilled to get him here.
    5. Herman Johnson - G When quality falls, you take them and sit them at depth.
    6. Stryker Sulak - I like fast part time pass rushing specialists at bargain cap space.
    7. Mike Mickens - DB Again not as much need as I want the best player available

    1. Mark Sanchez
    2. Pat White
    3. Brannon Southerland

And then give the rest of our picks to Goodwill.

I'm so glad we didn't get this guy. I am from the city where he played his HS and college ball, and know people who have played with him and against him.

He's got a bad attitude and poor work ethic. He will really shape up if he has any hopes of playing well in this league. In Canadian football, you can dominate without the effort, in the NFL, you don't have a shot.

I agree, although I would have picked Jerron Gilbert. A perfect guy to play at DE on run downs and then slide him inside to rush the passer on passing downs. Much like how the Giants use Justin Tuck.

So tell me, during your interview with these two guys why do you feel Johnson would have been better then Fletcher? Or was it something you say in the hours you put in watching their game tapes?

I only ask because how else could you call it a "bad move"? I doubt that you are strictly going on what some guys from the internet have said right?
