Sam Bradford's Injuries Vs. Other Rookie Qb's coming in

    2010:
Sam Bradford: In the November 17, 2007 game against Texas Tech, Bradford suffered a concussion of unknown severity.

Sam Bradford tore ligaments in his non-throwing hand during the Sooners' win against Oklahoma State.

In the Sooners' first game of the 2009 season (against Brigham Young), Bradford suffered a 3rd degree AC joint sprain one play after becoming Oklahoma's all-time passing leader. Bradford re-injured his right shoulder on October 17, 2009 in the Red River Rivalry against Texas on the second drive of the game. It was later announced that he would undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Jimmy Clausen: Suffered a Turf toe injury and underwent surgery to repair damaged tendons.

    2009:
Mark Sanchez: Sanchez broke the thumb in his throwing hand, missing the first game against Idaho. During the first week of fall camp 2008, Sanchez suffered a dislocated left kneecap while warming up for practice.

Matthew Stafford: Suffered no significant injuries at the college level. Dislocated Shoulder against the Browns landed him on IR.

Josh Freeman: No significant injuries at the college or pro level.

    2008:
Matt Ryan: In the season opener against Central Michigan, Ryan sprained his ankle.

Against Virginia Tech, Ryan broke his foot on the same leg.

    2007:
Jamarcus Russell: Russell injured his shoulder in a loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship game, and missed the team's bowl game.

Brady Quinn: No significant injuries at the college level. Suffered a damaged tendon in his throwing hand in 2008. Suffered a foot injury that placed him on IR at the end of the 2009 season.

--Is Bradford really that big an injury risk anymore than other first round guys with the added weight to his frame, or is he a victim of getting injured in his final season and being the hot topic of the moment?

Well, let's look at your data.

Quinn, Flacco (whom you left out), Freeman, and Stafford didn't suffer any significant injuries in college.

Russell's injury report says he missed his bowl game in '05 with a separated left shoulder and ligament damage to his right wrist, but that appears to be it. It seems he played his final 2006 season without any additional significant injuries reported.

Matt Ryan missed a game in 2006 with a broken bone in his foot, but that appears to be it as well (I'm not counting a sprained ankle, as I wouldn't think it significant enough to list it for Bradford). Like Russell, Ryan came back the following year and played the whole season for his team with no additional significant injuries reported.

The only person who comes close to rivaling Bradford on the injury issue is Sanchez. But he missed one game in 2007 with a thumb fracture, and then had the knee dislocation in 2008. His knee dislocation was described as a day to day injury, and Sanchez started the first game of the year less than a month later and played a full season in 2008 for the Trojans.

Given these descriptions, I think it's pretty clear that Bradford's medical rapsheet is longer/more significant than any of the other first round QB prospects of the last three draft classes, and thus represents a legitimate concern.

aint surprised Jemarcus Russell has had no real serious injuries..he`s usually got more fatty body mass than the opposing D-linemen..i guess he must have separated his shoulder and caused ligament damage to his wrist by arm wrestling himself.

If I remember right I actually think I read somewhere that Russell also had back issues because he refused to wear a sports bra.....
