I'd take the best player available, regardless of position in Rd 1.
Well, first round talent is what it is....first round talent. If you could snag a QB of the future in Brady Quinn....why wouldn't you?
I guess I'm more like what Nick said....it's a combination of talent on the board vs need. The Rams have a desperate need for a DT but if Branch and Okoye are off the board at 13 do you take Tank Tyler just because you need a DT? I think at 13, the best player left on anyone's board is going to be defensive anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if Willis isn't there for the Rams at that slot.
I think it can be assumed that the Rams won't have a shot at any of the following offensive players at pick #13:
JaMarcus Russell
Calvin Johnson
Brady Quinn
Joe Thomas
Adrian Peterson
That means that at least one of the following eight players will be available at pick #13:
Jamaal Anderson
Gaines Adams
Alan Branch
Amobe Okoye
LaRon Landry
Adam Carriker
Patrick Willis
Jarvis Moss
So, I guess one way of looking at it is, assuming that I'm right about the five offensive players who will definitely go in the top 12, are there any other offensive players you'd take over all of the eight defensive players (again, one of whom, at a minimum, will be available to the Rams)?
No............
May your words ring true AV! ...Defense! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! :rQuote:

I didn't vote for a specific one because i feel that i fall into two of those catergories. I think that our #1 priority should be a DT, but if there isn't anyone there and we would have to pick someone like Tank Tyler who shouldn't be going in round 1 then we should pass on him. Instead we should go for a big strong bulky lb that we have been missing and craving on this team. If we do get a LB round 1 I think then that round 2 it's a must that we take a DT.
My view of this year is a simple mix of BPA and position needs. I say take the BDLA.....Best Defensive Lineman Available.
AV, I don't think it's far-fetched to add a 2nd OL like Levi Brown, or a 2nd RB like Lynch, and/or a 2nd WR like Ginn to that list of offense taken prior to 13. If so, we could see as many as 4 of those defenders on your list staring at us at 13.Quote:

We'll probably see some teams making huuuuge reaches to pick up players to fill specific team needs. Look at some of the later picks in the first round to maybe be huge reaches for running backs.
They have to take the best available DL player that fits the need. Now if a top LB or DB happen to be there that is another possibility. The defensive needs are more critical than offense at this point.
I want to fall in love with our chances in this draft, but...

Well, you get the picture!
Another middle of the pack pick...another crap shoot trying to fill sooooo many positions. I say we go after the best offensive lineman in the draft, at whatever position in the draft or trading that makes sense to accomplish that, then feed the defense with some wide receivers mixed in here and there.
In my opinion, 1st round is BPA, 2nd and 3rd, should be best player of a need position.4th -5th should be best players at a need /less need, that would be depth players who could make the team. the 6th and 7th round are some of my favorite. these are the finding a diamond guy's. these guy's know they have to fight for the right. and that usually means OFFENSIVE LINE guy's. these rounds are where you find tough and sturdy G -C- and some RB's.
