Shane Olivea released by Chargers

Chargers released RT Shane Olivea.

Olivea started for the better part of four years before losing his job to Jeromey Clary in 2007, so at 26 he's suddenly one of the better young tackles available. Teams will look hard at his back injuries.

via rotoworld.

A potential FA pickup? He might be a little pricey, usually all FAs are, but he's only 26 years old and would be more than an adequate replacement at RT if Pace should go down.

I don't know if we can bank on the fact that Pace will stay healthy so I think we need to have some sort of insurance at the tackle position.

This one guy i wouldnt mind but im still concerned as to how he would fit on the team with us already having two tackles. Would you pay him the big bucks to sit the bench? Also he has back issues. Remember Turley?

Yeah, the last thing I want is to have alot of money just sitting on the bench.

Any FA money spent on the line should be spent in between the tackles.

Really? I could have sworn he was too.

In case you missed the 2007 season, when Pace went down, Barron played LT, and it would probably be a similar situation if he were to go down again.

But good try thoughh

Re: Shane Olivea released by Chargers

Btimsah, Smizz means that he'll play RT when Barron goes to LT.

I have no idea what he'd want money wise, but I have to imagine that it won't be top money. Especially if Stussie retires, I think this is the kind of guy to jump on, as long as we can clear his back. Think of it this way. Yes, he'd be an ok chunk of money on the bench, but he could battle Barron at RT to start, probably pitch in at guard, as well as rehab his back into to shape while not playing extremely much.

If we can get him at about 2 million on this year's cap I think he could be great depth/starting RT material.
