Since him and Rivers are in their contract year. Plus the Chargers number 1 pick was a new OLB it is assumed that merriman will be leaving.
Merriman has 31 teams to choose from if if doesn't return to the Chargers. What makes you so sure that he will be coming over to the Horns? That's if we even want him?
reasons why Merrimen wouldnt want to join the Rams:
1.he`s played on a SB contender every year of his career, goin` to a team who has won 5 out of their last 32 isn`t gonna be appealing when theres far more and many SB primed teams at this point.
2.he`d have to switch positions from a 3-4 OLB to a 4-3 OLB or a 4-3 DE.
3.he would have to play 8 games on a surface that is notorious for giving players injuries, especially Knee injuries...he currently has very nasty knee injuries.
reasons why the Rams wouldnt want him:
1.have to throw the bank at him to get him.
2.have to find a new position for him, from the one he`s played his entire career in.
3.he has nasty knee injuries that may never heal, may never be the same player again and he may even be forced to retire before his current Chargers contract expires.
I think it'd be a lot more likely that the Chargers would sign one of them long-term and franchise the other. I'd also assume that he'd prefer to go to a 3-4 team if he did become a free agent.
stranger things have happened. If he can come back from injury ok I'm game.. I realize this is a shot in the dark call, but for either arguement we really need to see what he does this season.
