Should I be worried?

.
In regard to Glenn Dorsey?

I need to see some game tapes on him, but these are some questions and
some observations I have:

- He's not a Noseguard. He's another Under-tackle (where Carriker is best suited).

- He's not a pass rusher. Of course, not a lot of the interior guys are - but for playing under tackle in College - he's Really not a pass rusher. Check the number of pressures by Claude Wroten in his senior year versus the number
of pressures by Glenn Dorsey in his senior year. Wroten played ahead of Dorsey (same position) in 2005.

- Supposedly he does not have a lot of upper body strength. That is very unusual for the first DL taken in the draft - VERY unusual. Maybe someone
will tell me I'm wrong, and I'm open to that.

- LSU Defense lineman haven't fared well in the Pros of late. They have good teams and swarming defenses.

I do understand the guy is a player. Many people had him going first. But, he is unusual. His game is quickness evidently - but he uses it to defeat the running game.

I know Dorsey is getting doubled - but it's hard for me to believe that Wroten
didn't get doubled too - with his numbers.

Any information is appreciated.

TIA.

Thanks - how about QB pressures versus Claude Wroten
(1 sack last year)?

Re: Should I be worried?

Wroten:As a senior, he recorded 44 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, nine QB hurries and 4.5 sacks.

Dorsey... Despite being double teamed, and sometimes triple teamed, most of the season he has still racked up 69 tackles, a total that includes seven sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss ... Also been credited with four quarterback hurries and four broken up passes ...

To stretch on Dorsey, in most instances he was asked to contain his blockers so others on the line could go in for the sack/tackle, thus not giving him an oppurtunity to increase those stats.

To answer your question, in short, no.

Re: Should I be worried?

Dorsey's job wasnt to rush the passer. His job was to eat up blockers and make his teammates better.

Exactly. Thats why teams are projecting him to be Warren Sapp becuase when he actually is going to be asked to be a pass rusher they think he will be beast. That poses a big question for the Rams do we buy that?

Wroten played the exact same position - in the same exact defense.

In their LSU careers:

Wroten - 12 sacks and 34 quarterback pressures.

Dorsey - 13.0 sacks and 7 quarterback pressures.

This is where I got the info on Dorsey's QB pressures:

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Glenn Dorsey

. Wroten had ONE NFL sack last year.

Re: Should I be worried?

Do you not remember Wroten last offseason? He said as a rookie he was too focused on getting to the QB instead of diagnosing the play as a run or pass which made him out of position almost all the time. And why did he do this? At LSU he was asked to attack the QB every single play while Kyle Williams did the opposite. THAT is why Wroten has not adjusted well in the NFL so far. He pledged on getting better last offseason, but he was too busy beating up his girlfriend. Please do not put Dorsey in the same sentence as Wroten, that is such an insult to the caliber of player that Dorsey is.

Wroten started ahead of Dorsey when they were on the same team.

Re: Should I be worried?

Dorsey will make offensive linesmen double team. The reason I don't like Dorsey is we don't have a good pass rush. If we had a good pass rush (like Chris Long on our team) i would be more than happy to take Dorsey...but we just don't.

And Ricky Williams started ahead of Priest Holmes while both were at Texas. But who was the better player in the end? Nice try.

Or how about Brian Griese starting over Tom Brady? That does not mean a thing about who will be the better pro or who has more talent.

Wow!! That is amazing: Glen Dorsey is a dominant player in college with only average upper body strength. Imagine what he will do in the NFL after he spends some time in an NFL-quality strength program. You see, this is why many teams are trying to move up to get Mr. Dorsey. They can all see that he has tremendous "up-side" and is only going to get better and better. Note that you don't hear of anyone wanting to trade up to select Chris Long. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

WHAT SAY YE?

I think we'll find Dorsey to be a good quick, penetrating type
of under-tackle (he's not a nose tackle) - that is an average
pass rusher.

I suspect the sites saying he doesn't have good upper body power are
incorrect.
