Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
I have a close friend who was employed as an owner's rep for an extremely weatlhy German man. The German client was to say the least, very demanding regarding the upkeep and maintenance on his many homes, some in the U.S.A. and others abroad. One of the German's favorite sayings was: "I pay for results - not effort !!"
I see no reason why this logic cannot apply to NFL rookies. It does apply when a player lightly regarded at draft time proves over the length of his first contract he is much better than previously anticipated. Whether he is re-signed by his original team or gets a bundle from a new team in FA, his proven results are rewarded. I think this will be addressed when owners and players come to the bargaining table again. The same dollars will be spent (assuming some semblance of a salary cap is retained), but the distribution of those dollars will be much more fairly allocated to veterans who have earned the right to bigger checks.

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
YES!!!! My opinion is, there is nothing wrong with rookies signing million dollar contracts out of College. But come on, 65 million dollar contracts. That is just crazy.
These contracts can destoy a team for years if someone is a bust. These guys need to earn it. Just my thoughts

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
YES
It is crazy that rookies get more money then proven veterans, make the rookie contracts depend on performance on the field! Right now a few years with a high draft pick can destroy a teams cap room so in that way the high rookie salaries has the opposite effect on bad teams, they might actually be punished long term by their picks.

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
Another thing is this: if in a particular year there are few if any top talents deserving of being selected in say the top 5 of round 1, do teams get to pay less? Obviously not in today's system, but a fairly slotted cap on rookie salaries would go a long way toward achieving a semblance of fairness.

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
Yes, these rookie's come out of college, not playing, training or practicing one time in the NFL and some get signed to $65 million and around there.
Nothing wrong with a rookie starting off with a 4 year, $15 million contract, and then having a clause in it that says if you perform upto expectations you'll be givin more, or be able to sign another contract for more at the end of your 2nd season. Giving them soemthing to work for.RamsFan16

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
Yes because unproven players shouldn't get paid that much. Seasoned vets that have proven themselves don't even get that much money.

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
Everybody said "YES" .
Do you think the Rams could trade down if there was a rookie salary cap. No rookie could make over $2 million a season or year . A $8 million cap per team for all rookies in a year or season .
Rd 1 pick $2mil. limit
Rd 2 pick $1.5mil. limit
Rd 3 pick $1.2mil. limit
Rd 4 pick $1mil. limit
Rd 5 pick $800 thousand limit
Rd 6 pick $600 thousand limit
Rd 7 pick $400 thousand limit
That is the max you can pay a player including signing bonuses. the rest of the money is for walk on free agents.
No contract can be less than 3 years.
What about that. It would help all NFL teams that are having bad years.

Re: Should NFL go to a rookie salary cap?
Oh yes I full believe the Rams would have no trouble trading down. Money is the biggest issue in trading down.
