Defensive Line Discussion
What do you guys feel is the more important d-line need to address in the upcoming off-season.
Quick agile ass rushing defensive end opposite Chris Long?
Ex. Greg Hardy, Greg Romeus, Jerry Hughes
Big, fat nose tackle to stuff up running game?
Ex. Terrance Cody, Boo Robinson, Vince Oghobaase
Strong, stocky DT to rush the QB and help stop the running game?
Ex. Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Jared OdrickLast edited by RockinRam; -11-22-2009 at 12:43 PM.

Re: Simple Discussion
I myself think it's a pass rush DE.

Re: Simple Discussion
I like a multi-threat DT. If Clifton Ryan could pack on 10 - 15 points, he'd be dynamite at NT. He just needs someone to help him down there. I like Suh.

Re: Simple Discussion
i think an end is the most important need right now, partially because we just don't have much talent there. a true nt or great pass-rushing dt would still be huge, and i think we need to address all three this offseason unless ryan or scott show major improvement soon.

Re: Simple Discussion
I think Ryan is the perfect NT for this system. This system we really need 2 or 3 versatile pass rushing DEs. However against the run we are sorely lacking a good UT and that hurts our under average small OLBs

Re: Simple Discussion
I think we have to go out and get someone like Terrence Cody. He is a large run stopping presence in the middle that we have been desperately needing. He has size, speed, athletic ability, strength. Everything you could want from a defensive lineman. Every year there are always top defensive ends coming out. How often does a mammoth defensive tackle with skill come out? How many Vince Wilforks and Pat/Kevin/Jamal Williams come out? They are far and few inbetween. That type of presence in the middle, will take more attention away from our ends.

Re: Simple Discussion
I think we need balance.
We need talent
Someone who can shed blocks and make plays. Not particularly a monster. Something of a jack of all trades master of none. A DT/DE that can come in off the bench. Someone like Adam Carriker if he can ever stay healthy and grasp his potential.
Also we need a smart RE to play across Chris long. A powerfull bull rusher.

Re: Simple Discussion
It's rather simple for me: If we are going to run the 4-3 then we absolutely must have a DT that can provide an inside pass rush as well as get penetration in the run game.
We haven't had anybody worth a spit at this since the halcyon years of DeMarco Farr. And our 4-3 style defense has suffered every year because of it.
Therefore, if N. Suh or G McCoy are available when we pick either one is the choice as far as I am concerned.
WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Simple Discussion
Two words......
Ndamukong Suh, a much better overall player than Cody. At this point we need more than a 1 trick pony.

Re: Simple Discussion
I can't see him slipping past Tennessee. As much as they don't want to admit it, they are really hurting from losing Albert Haynesworth. Terrence Cody would be the perfect fit for that hard nose defense. Some other teams that would probably be interested would be Dallas, Pittsburgh, New England (wouldn't surprise me if they let Wilfork go to avoid paying him the huge salary and just draft his replacement), Baltimore, Miami. If we want him, we are going to have to take him in the first, maybe trade out of our pick, grab a few more, and grab him in the 10-15 range.

Re: Simple Discussion
Well rockinram looks like the discussion is not that simple. You should try to change the name to What type of DL do we need?
Verry good poll right now its 30%-30%-40% so we cannot come up with a decision on clanram and none of the options are clear cut favorites.

Re: Simple Discussion
Top 5 pick you are looking at Suh or McCoy no pass rushing DE at this point is worth that top 5 pick IMO. Mount Cody also isn't a top 5 pick.
Suh is an absolute monster, I watched him take over the Kansas State game. They were doubling him all day, but he fought through the doubles. In one serires he got a sack first down, got penetration batted the pass down 2nd down, then got pressure and forced the QB to step into a sack 3rd down.

Re: Simple Discussion
I'm going with Suh. Forget the QB of the future. Suh is a beast. Any player who can dominate their position like he can will be a good NFL player. Suh is the man!

Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!
