Softli: Snelling "Never an option" (Huh?)

I confirmed from both Rams and League sources that FB/short yardage back Jason Snelling was never an option for the Rams.
    Never an option?

I won't be shocked if the Rams turn elsewhere, but how can every other reporter (local and national) who said the Rams had spoken with Snelling about a possible deal be that wrong?

    Weird.

It does seem strange given the fact that virtually every source reported the Rams/Snelling connection. Funny how Rotoworld has an active report linking the Rams to Snelling:

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi confirms the Rams are the team "most interested" in and "doing the most homework on" free agent Ronnie Brown. The Rams are also interested in Jason Snelling, which would "eliminate" Brown, according to Lombardi. The idea is to find a nickel tailback who can "complement" Steven Jackson while also functioning as the "Kevin Faulk of Josh McDaniels' offense." S-Jax's receiving numbers could take a hit this year. And a report saying they never did have that link:

Citing both team and league sources, Tony Softli of ESPN 101 St. Louis reports free agent Jason Snelling "was never an option" for the Rams.
Softli refers to Snelling as a "fullback" and "short-yardage back," which may give insight into the Rams thinking. Snelling played tailback in Atlanta and often struggled in short-yardage situations, but it's true that he doesn't look like a typical third-down back on film. Ronnie Brown appears to be the favorite to land in St. Louis.

I tend to believe Michael Lombardi. Softli doesn't know what he's talking about.
