    Re: SOSA's MOCK DRAFT v1.0!!!!

Lefevour is good. I'm wondering what makes him a 3rd round prospect though? Clausen has character issues. McCoy and Bradford have durability issues. Tebow has mechanical issues. Pike is all the above. What's Lefevour's problem?

Arm strength is not just about the ability to throw a deep ball. It's also about putting enough zip on it that defenders won't have enough time to make a play on it. A guy with good arm strength and accuracy can put the ball in between two defenders and can squeeze the ball through double coverage to his receiver. A guy with WEAK arm strength and accuracy can't do that, because his balls would not have enough zip and defenders would pick that off faster than Tiger Woods running away from his wife.

And as for never going downfield, there are many reasons why we didn't.

    1) Pat Shurmur being a rookie OC, didn't really know what to do.

    2) We lost a big deep threat in Laurent Robinson.

    3) The times we did go downfield, we couldn't connect with an open Avery.

    4) We have no other receivers that can go deep other than Avery, and Robinson.

I wouldn't be surprised if we aired the ball out more next season...

The reason why Tony Pike is not a good draft pick is because he plays in a spread offense, AND to make matters worse, he has a noodle for an arm.

Dan LeFevour, Sean Canfield, Bill Stull, even Colt McCoy are all better QB's IMO.
You missed out two reasons why we couldnt connect on the deep ball

    1) Our OL couldnt keep the QB upright long enough for the deep routes to develop

    2) Our QBs, when they had the chance to throw the deep ball, couldnt do it accurately

    3) Our wideouts have trouble hauling in anything not square on the numbers, and have a decent chance of dropping anything that is.

That was only toward the end of the year when injuries started plaguing our o-line.

During the rest of the season, the majority of the time, Bulger or Boller had more than ample time to throw a deep ball. It's because our receivers cannot get separation, or does not have enough experience/talent to shake off defenders.

Pike is too scrawny, he won't pack on the weight and will never be an NFL starter. He looked good playing a weak schedule.

McCoy is a leader, I like that, and to me would be the Rams best QB effort this draft

After watching the senior bowl, both LeFevour and Pike look to be handling snaps under center very well!

At the start of the season the OL struggled in pass protection. It seemed there were only really two or so games where they did well in pass protection and none of the linemen were injured

I agree 100% LeFevour has tangibles and intangibles. Nice size, quick feet, makes throws, thinks on feet. The only question would be the level of competition he faced, but that is not really an issue for me. There is not a draftable QB that can come in and make us a winning team. We need a development QB, that gives us a long-term payoff.
A defeated look of consternation, dissappointment, or even pain. The name derives from the look one often gets when challenged by a large BM.

Enough with the wishful thinking. Theres no QB in this draft who is an instant starter. It makes more sense to grab a guy in free agency. There are many QB's that are about to get let go who are capable of winning games just as much as Bulger is, but have more upside. Even if we pick up a guy just for just a season to fill a hole... until a better draft comes along.

But if we pick up a guy and he does good this season, how would we be able to get Jake Locker next year? We would have a bad pick in the draft..

... did you think before you wrote this?

If we grab an FA Qb and he does really good.... why would we need Jake Locker next year?

Because there is not 1 QB in FA that is young. or at least productive. If Mike Vick can barely lead the falcons to what.. 1 appearance to the playoffs what makes you think he can do it here. The next best is what, Chad Pennington? ahaha. And you want to pick a young guy you can develop under somebody and id love to be able to do that with Locker.

I'm not saying picking a QB in FA would mean he's gonna stick around. We can cut him anytime we want. We could pick up Vick, then cut him and take Locker at the end of the season. Like trying on shoes...

It would be wonderful to find a legit QB in FA and save us a first round pick. If not Locker would be good.
