Stephen Paea. My hope for the 14th overall choice.

I have seen this guy go from top 5 to 2nd round in mock drafts, but last time i seen a guy with this kind of talent combined with his motor was when the Ravens drafted Haloti Ngata a few years ago. He's only been playing football a few years but has played rugby all his life. He understands Leverage and has Long arms to make O-lineman think twice. He's the best Pass rushing DT in the draft by far.

Heres a scouting report on him

2011 NFL Draft: Could Stephen Paea Be a Top 10 Pick? | Bleacher Report

Combined with all his athletic ability is THE most Humble person i've seen coming out of college ever. just watch some of his interviews.

YouTube - Stephen Paea: Outland, Nagurski, Lombardi & Lott Award Candidate

He also pushes himself in the weight room. He reps 225 44 times in this video.
YouTube - Stephen Paea Bench Press

And i f you need any more reason to want this guy on your team just watch any game the guy plays in. He's constantly in the backfield, He may not always be making the tackles but he is always disrupting plays.

Here is one of his better games against two of the best RBs in college football at the time( Legarette Blount and LeMicheal James)
YouTube - Stephen Paea vs. Oregon (2009)

Anyone else praying he drops to us at 14?

Re: Stephen Paea. My hope for the 14th overall choice.

I've frequently seen him going to the Colts as well, as they could certainly use a big boy inside to suck up the run.

I'd have to say that Fairley is the better prospect, all around, as well as pass rushing, but he also has no chance to drop to us, either(I love saying that!). Paea is raw, but at the same time, also interestingly experienced. He's a freak of natural ability, he just needs to find the right system for him. Is Spags' system right? Well, it could be, I was excited to read that bleacher report mention that he could be a Justin Tuck type, playing right end(oh wow, one of our needs), who then moves inside on passing downs.

In the end, though, I think he fits in well with a 4-3 system as a tackle where he can use those huge arms and superior strength to push the pocket in the middle, either leading linebackers to open spots in the line, or push the QB out into the waiting arms of looping DE's.

Certainly won't be disappointed if we grab him!
    I believe!

The Bleacher Report actually says that he has short legs and long arms from his frame... meaning that he has a lower center of gravity, and arms that will keep offensive linemen from being able to get a good grip on him. So, quite the opposite.

The report really seems accurate when it says he has elite explosiveness. He really gets going quickly. I have to say I was more impressed watching him than I thought I would be. I don't think DT is our top need, but if he's BPA at 14 then yeah, I think he'd be a good choice.

at 14 i`d have him as a slight reach but if he is identified as the player the Rams want then they should ignore that and just take him.

i like him as a prospect and would prefer us to get him rather than just go with whoever is the next wideout available (e.g drafting the position rather than the talent) there`s quite a few ways we could go
with the 14th..as funny as it may sound..we actually have more options than we had when we were picking 1st and 2nd overall.

Are they sure it's short arms? Could be deep pockets?

I have no problems with taking a DT with our first pick. The big guys don't get enough credit. We saw how big an impact Fred Robbins had for us this year, and a young DT might be just what we need to move forward. Think about it: Paea at DT, Long at DE, Laurinaitis at MLB, Fletcher at CB. Add in a young OLB and perhaps a SS, and suddenly you've got a young defensive nucleus that will terrorize the league for years.

The Bleacher Report also mentions concerns about his knees - frequent knee sprains. If that is deemed a non-issue I would really like this pick.

I dont think he's missed a game since he's been at Oregon State. That should be a good sign atleast.
