Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Per ESPN Insider,
ESPN Insider's KC Joyner evaluated Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and writes, "It is said that this is one of the deepest defensive line drafts in NFL history and the metrics say Suh is head and shoulders above his positional competition. He should be the No. 1 pick in the draft."
But here's where the problem comes in: the St. Louis Rams pick first -- this tweet from NFL Insider Adam Schefter gives us the Top 10 -- and rumors have been building that they will be taking a QB with that No. 1 pick. The NFL is the League of Quarterbacks, after all, not the League of Defensive Tackles.
If that happens, the Detriot Lions and their fans would be ecstatic, as they would love to see Suh in Motown.
---------
Quite frankly, I'd be upset if this happens. Unless Sam Bradford/Clausen show that they ARE the future of this organization and is worth the 1st pick of the draft, we have to pick the best player available.
Honestly, I'd be shocked if we don't pick Suh but you never know. What scares me the most is screwing up landing a high caliber player like Suh.

Always and Forever a fan of the St. Louis Rams

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
It has started earlier than expected, but we all knew this would happen. AV predicted it in a thread a couple of weeks ago.
See, there's two ways the media can go with the Rams #1 pick.
The accurate, but boring way: The Rams will pick Suh.
The inaccurate, but intriguing way: The Rams will not pick Suh.
The 2nd way is more interesting because it's not the expected. Not right, but not expected; therefore, people like Adam Schefter become relevant with their unexpected notions that come from "anonymous sources" and "league insiders"
I have full faith that Devaney and Spags will do what's right.........and right now, that means Suh is a Ram."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
I would be disappointed if we pass on Suh, but i wont be surprised. This is a QB league and dev and spags have got to be feeling pressure to turn this thing around immediatly. The most obvious way to show that they are trying would be getting a QB in the first round, even if it isnt the best choice. You have to remember that to a common fan that just watches the game and doesnt analyze the players like some poeple on this forum do, all the blame rests on the QB no matter what.
That being said, if we dont take suh, i expect us to trade out of the top pick. When QB's are taken #1 overall they are grossly overpaid.
Edit: After reading my own post again, it sound as if I dont want Suh with the first pick. To clarify i think Suh is the BPA and should be our pick.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
If the Lions draft Suh that would mean we are one year behind them. How is that? They got their franchise QB last year and this year they get "King Alpha Tackle." We get ours this year and pick #1 priority defense next year?
Not happening here!!! To much disappointment in this franchise to give up our #1 pick on some bust QB in the 2010 draft.
I like what I viewed on ESPN insider and that is that Rams will draft Suh and possibly get Colt McCoy in the second round, he will still be available.Last edited by Nick; -01-05-2010 at 02:53 AM. Reason: No links...

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
I wouldn't be. This team needs a quarterback of the future, and there are two guys who, while some would argue aren't deserving of the first overall pick, certainly are going to get consideration in the Top 5-10.
If the Rams feel Bradford's medical report is not a concern, or if they talk to Clausen and like what they hear, they may opt to pull the trigger on someone they feel will be a franchise QB.
At this moment, I have a hard time believing either quarterback represents better value than Suh, and both QB and DT are needs. I'd prefer to see the Rams go with Suh in round one and find a quarterback of the future after that. But given the importance of the position, it wouldn't surprise me if the Rams took a QB first.
A bit disappointed maybe, but not surprised. And if that QB turns into the franchise player the Rams thought he'd be when they drafted him, maybe in the end, we wouldn't mind.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Man, already? Suh is the best player in the draft, hands down! The combine or anything doesn't really prove anything! Look at Gholston! That dude was a beast at the combine. We have to go off of playing, and Suh is a dominant player!!!
I would be more than surprised if Suh isn't the pick. We saw running backs race all over the field against us. Clearly, DT is a need, and Suh happens to be the best one in recent years! We can still land a QB of the future in round two.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
I'm wondering what you guys think of this idea...
Assuming that the Rams decide to take a QB instead of Suh.
The Bucs trade the 3rd overall pick and the 35th overall pick for the #1 overall pick.
Seeing as how the Bucs and Lions both have their QBs of the future, Clausen will be sitting at #3 for the Rams to take.
The Rams end up with their QB and a second rounder, and Suh wears pewter next season.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Of course the Rams are looking at taking a QB. They're looking at everything at this point. There's a lot of work to be done before April and they are not going to lock onto any particular player any time soon. It's going to be a long, twisting, turning, smoke filled, rumor laced journey to draft day. Be prepared for an unpredictable ride. I'm sure it will keep this place jumpin'.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
ESPN, much like every other subscription-based information service, is looking to sell subscriptions. Also, they're not exactly very accurate with it which is a shame.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Yes the Rams need a QB. But they also need a DT. And DE. And WR. And OLB. And some secondary help. And some OL help cant hurt.
The thing is, the Rams will take the best player available because they can. Its not like we already have a stud DL so can pass on Suh, and its not as if we are a QB away from a Superbowl. Suh is the best player in this draft.
Now, with the two teams picking after the Rams being Detroit and Tampa, and both of them having young QBs already, it makes sense that if one covets Suh and wants to give up a lot of picks to get him, that the Rams take the deal and get a QB of the future anyway. Like i say, the Rams are in dire need of players. Problem here is that Detroit may be happy to stay where they are and take a guy like Gerald McCoy or Russell Okong.
The interesting thing comes with Washington at No. 4. I know Mike Shanahan is probably going to go there and be the guy leading the personel charge, but Dan Snyder is still there and they will want a new QB. The Rams could show interest in the two QBs in an attempt to get Washington to give up a big deal and move up. Then the Rams can stockpile some picks and get a good player at 4th (Gerald McCoy). However, Shanahan is much more draft savvy than Snyder, and its likely that such a move by Washington wont happen. Either they stay at the 4th and pick the QB that the Rams dont want, or if both are there they have their pick of the QBs. Shanahan will probably want to take a premier OT like Okong or Bruce Campbell and build a strong line like he had in Denver. He can get that by staying at 4th.
But at this early stage it makes a lot of sense for the Rams to not rule out a QB and to be showing interest in all players. But if a deal doesnt happen for the Rams, they will take Suh.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Let's talk about "rumors," shall we?
There are only 5 people who possess real "inside information" regarding who the Rams might take. They are: Bill Devaney, Steve Spagnuolo, Kevin Demoff, Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez.
Now, do you think that:
1. Any of these five people have decided who to take, and if so
2. They are talking about it in public?
Obviously the answer to both questions is "no."
So... and let me be clear...
THERE ARE NO RUMORS. ITS ALL JUST SPORTSWRITER SPECULATION. RUMORS AND SPECULATION ARE NOT THE SAME THINGS!
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
There will be all kinds of rumors flying between now and draft day. The way I see it, the biggest screw-up would be if the Rams took any player other than Suh with the first pick. Trade down with a team who has a top 10 #1 pick, get an additional player or another late first/early second round pick, or pick Suh. If there's another team who is willing to give up their left nut to pick Suh, then make 'em pay, if not, pick Suh and enjoy a future HoF'er for the next 10 years.

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Sportswriter: This 24 hour news thing is real weighing me down. I don't know what to write about.
Co-worker: You can write an interesting article about who the Rams should take with their first pick.
Sportswriter: Or l can make something up!
Co-worker: Well, I don't think that's such a good idea--
Sportswriter: It's perfect! Thanks for your help!

Re: Suh Not the No. 1 Pick?
Would Detroit give up their 2nd Round pick to swap with the Rams for the Number 1 pick in the draft?
I'd do it.
