Texans - Veteran QB, Open to Trade 1st pick

They want to go with a veteran QB even if they draft a rookie. Per their owner, Bob McNair. Normally you think of smokescreens when people talk of the draft, but there's no reason for the team with the 1st overall pick to do that.

I think they are seeing the benefit of what the Rams gained for the RGIII trade and want in on some of that action.

This is actually pretty bad for the Rams - the price for #2 just went down, because #1 is available. It also tells people that the Texans don't hold much stock in the the value of a top pick in this draft.

The chance of us drafting Matthews at #2 just went up a notch in my mind. Still, haven't seen the combine yet - let's hope there's 2 players that just produce transcendental drill scores.

Interesting whom they could be thinking about. Michael Vick perhaps? I say we deal them Kellen Clements, get their #1 and make the beginning of the draft a Rams showcase. We could command so many picks Kevin Demoff will replace Roger Goodell at the podium. OK, dream over, I've woken up.

    Go Rams!

Not sure how that impacts the Rams. Even if a team trades up to take Bridgewater, there should still be a market for either Clowney or the 2nd best QB (whoever that might be).

I agree, if it does impact the Rams at all it will be minimal… there's more than one great prospect in this year's draft

Interesting that they'd prefer a Vet. Who are the FA vets out there? I only can think of Vick, McCown and Fitzpatrick now that Cutler has signed.

This isn't entirely surprising - the Texans were a 12-win team last year so they have talent on that roster that a good, veteran QB could help - but it also isn't entirely monumental as it relates to the Rams. As Av pointed out, there is going to be someone - either Clowney or one of the top two QBs in this class - available when the Rams are on the clock who could entice a trade up from another team. And if they don't, then the Rams can stay there and take an outstanding talent.

Vick would make sense for them, maybe even McCown. I still think they'll end up drafting someone and have him sit for a year under whatever FA QB they sign.

I fail to see how this changes the value or trade worthiness of the #2 pick.

If a QB was being taken by Houston or whoever they trade with, nothing has changed.
If they take Clowney, maybe it makes the Rams pick more valuable.

I think the key here is the Jags and Browns needing a QB, with the browns (hopefully) wanting to jump the Jags and trade with us to ensure they don't get the #3 QB on the board.
