I think each year should have it's own philosophy, like the last two years we went with best available (Kennedy and SJ). However, this year, we have a hole to fill at RT. We have to address it immediately.Quote:

draft the best player available (except kickers).
fill immediate needs via FA and trades.
rookies rarely make consistent plays game after game, unless they're in the top 5... and even then it's still a crap-shoot...
hey i got a great idea lets trade out all of our picks except our 3rd and 4rth rounders and get more third and fourth round picks, also lets trade our 2006 picks and our 2007 picks for the same...lets just get every third and fourth round pick available...cmon with that many mid level picks im sure we will be able to get some players that will do what we need...and think of the depth at some positions....cap hell and no choices for two years but hey!!!...........................................by the way im just kidding!! :king:
Target a player and do what's necessary to get him. If a player starts to drop jump up and snag him. Best player available sounds like settling for your nieghbor's daughter cause you stood by and watched the lady of your fancy walk right on by and didn't make "THE MOVE" !!
Best date available at the tme.

I would agree with you on this. In the first round I would like to see us get an impact player to fill a need. Even if we have to move up a few spots to get a guy that's dropping. Like we did last year with Jackson. I see RT as our first priority and a ball hawking safety next.Quote:

First round you have to go with the best player available, especially in the salary cap era. The talent scores go way down later. After the first, then draft for need.
Funny stuff maineram.Quote:

Ideally, we could fill a need with the best talent available (Brown or Barnes?) I voted to fill a need, but I'm really torn between the two. I think #19 will allow us to go either way; talent AND need, but we'll see. Lord knows I've been wrong before. (Just don't tell my wife I said so)
Scidog, you've hit upon the beauty of this year's draft. Unless something really weird happens at 1-18, the best player available at 19 will be an OT. There's the possibility the best player there could be a DE (Pollack, Cody, Roth), but Brown or Barnes will probably be the best pick of any position at 19.Quote:
