Its a close call between Greenway and Huff, but I went with Huff because I think that the Rams can get a top notch LB in Round 2, but the dropoff at safety is pretty steep.

Why get a safety when we drafted Carter and Atogwe last year? I think its just stupid ... Your opinion vs My opinion.

I'm not sold on Carter or Atogwe at this point.

Carter if he doesn't go for the big hit and if he doesn't close his eyes when going for a tackle should improve and from what Atogwe played little in last year he looked like he could do the job.

I'm not sold on Carter's coverage skills yet. Right now, he appears to be a cheaper Arch. Atogwe hasn't done anything to garner a lock at either safety position either. He had a few moments last year, but other than a couple of highlights......

Yes it is a close call between Greenway and Huff; I will go with Huff also. He is just a physical player, will bring a toughness to a very soft defense. Also that fact our scheme was so bad, we where caught playing quarter way too much. Hard to say the LB's we brought in where that bad when they where not on the field.

I voted for huff, but ask me again after we see what happens in free agency between now and the draft. Depending on what we do at the linebacker and safety spots before the draft, i may have a different view.

I hope you didn't just call his opinion stupid.

Meanwhile, OJ played in, what, four games? The only memorable one being the meaningless Cowboys contest. I don't recall anything noteworthy coming from Carter all year except mistakes. Also keep in mind one of our starters at safety is scheduled for free agency, whereas all three starting LBs are still under contract (moderately lucrative ones, at that).
So why do we get a safety when we drafted two last year? Because the one we'd draft is a significant upgrade to either position, and because the depth at that position both in free agency and the draft isn't as good as the depth at LB.
The liklihood of significantly upgrading the LB position in free agency or the later rounds of the draft is MUCH HIGHER than the liklihood of significantly upgrading the S position in free agency or the later rounds of the draft. Therefore, I think you take the safety.Last edited by Nick; -02-16-2006 at 04:45 PM.

Re: These four players on the board when we make our pick who do you take?
Personally, i think carter was terrible on the field. could he improve? sure. do i want to bet on it? Not a chance. Our safeties were terrible last year. Aside from the fact that they couldnt cover and were lousy tacklers, they all had a great year. Furrey has great effort, but his tackling really wasnt much better than rich coady, given all the scenic angles and routes he took to the ball carriers on many occasions. OJ showed a pulse at the very end which is promising, but there is no evidence at this point to suggest that he is ready to be a succesful starter. We need major help at the position. If we filled the safety needs via free agency, linebacker would be a more attractive move in round one. I agree that relative depth in later rounds at the various positions is also critical.

Tye Hill isnt worthy of a first round selection.
Out of the guys lifted there, I'm going to go with Greenway. I like Atogwe and I think that there are some solid Safeties later on in the draft.
My #1 guy is Vernon Davis thoughThe Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.

huff is too undersized to play ss in the nfl imo.
i think he will fit in fine as a FS tho.

ed reed plays strong safety and hes almost the exact same size as huff. its not the size but the heart and will that will make a player great.
