Thomas: NFL Draft, Linebackers At A Glance

NFL Draft: Linebackers at a glance

16 hours ago • By Jim Thomas jthomas@post-dispatch.com

    CREAM OF THE CROP

    Dion Jordan Oregon 6-6 248

Has the burst and overall speed (4.54) to be devastating edge rusher.

    Jarvis Jones Georgia 6-3 245

3 words for those frowning on his so-so 40 times: See Terrell Suggs.

    Barkevious Mingo LSU 6-4 241

Still unpolished; college production didn’t match his physical talent.

    Alec Ogletree Georgia 6-3 242

Tons of athleticism but boom-or-bust type because of off-field issues.

    Manti Te’o Notre Dame 6-1 241

Even with imaginary girlfriend, so-so workouts, should go late 1, early 2.

    DON'T OVERLOOK

Arthur Brown, Kansas State; Khaseem Greene, Rutgers; Kevin Minter, LSU; Sio Moore, Connecticut; Cornelius Washington, Georgia.

    LOCAL LINE

Missouri’s Zaviar Gooden should go somewhere in the middle rounds.

    RAMS NEEDS

Next to safety, outside linebacker is the Rams’ biggest need position on defense. Specifically, the strongside spot which was a timeshare a year ago between Rocky McIntosh, Mario Haggan and Josh Hull. McIntosh and Haggan are unrestricted free agents and still on the market. In addition, the Rams have brought in Jacksonville veteran Daryl Smith on a free-agent visit but there has been no indication as of now if Smith will land in St. Louis or elsewhere.

    RATING THE FIELD

A decent year, with the top three LBs projected as 3-4 rush linebackers. For a variety of reasons, there is much uncertainty at the top over how high (or low) Jones, Ogletree, and Te’o will go in the draft.

I can't help but notice that Suggs doesn't play 4-3 LB.

What about the kid from Stanford I have been hearing so much from. I know they are looking at hime to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick but some have him going to the Rams.

    Go Rams
