Top 5 Senior QB's
According to Mel Kiper Jr., the top 5 senior QB's are as follows:
1. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
2. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
3. Dan Lefevour, QB, Central Michigan
4. Tony Pike, QB, Cincinnati
5. Sean Canfield, QB, Oregon State
I believe a few of you may be suprised by this order, and whether you are a fan of his Kiper or not, he does seem to have acces to what many NFL teams are looking for when it comes to the draft. Now this draft order is current (1/8/10), and of course we will have to wait until the combine to see who's stock falls, who's rises, and who simply falls off of the face of the earth.
Now since we have the #1 pick in almost every round, baring a monumental improvement by these five men, they will all be available in the 2nd round for us & if necessary the 3rd or 4th. Now I know many of you are Pike fans, and some of you favor McCoy or Lefevour. Some of you even believe in the magic that is Tim Tebow (as I do), but we obviously need to look towards our QB of the future. I believe we start Bulger this season for many reasons most notably being financial, but we do need to start grooming the successor.
With that being said my fellow clam members, who from these 5 men would you want behind center as the #2 or #3 QB(provided that we move Null up to #2, or pick up another free agent in the off-season)?

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
McCoy - I'd consider him in Round 2
Tebow - don't want him
LeFevour - I'd consider him in Round 3
Pike - Round 3 or 4
Canfield - have not seen him play
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Don't want any of them, personally.
The Rams need the much-vaunted "franchise quarterback" and none of these guys is it, although I'll admit that I haven't seen Canfield either. It's Clausen or Bradford (if his shoulder has recovered fully) with the first pick or no QB in this draft.

McCoy won't get past Minnesota in Round 1.

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
I used to be a hater but now I kinda want Tebow, not the first pick but if hes there in the second I'd want the rams to grab him, and not just because he dominated Cincinnati.
1) His throwing motion is a little funky but most leftys have weird throwing styles
2) Four pillars guy- something you cant coach, no other player has this guys heart, determination or leadership
3) I know he didn't run a very complicated offence but you know hes gonna work his butt off wherever he goes...Matt Ryan doesnt have the biggest arm or the most accurate, he just works hard...
4) Athletic- Few quarterbacks can do what tebow does; comparable to vince young
Tebow isn't a quick fix and will probably take a couple years before he can start but I'm starting to like the idea of Tebow as our Qb and leader of our team.
and you know hes not gonna get some chick prego and have a bunch of kids to distract him from football. He stayed a virgin at Florida! Percy harvin said girls would throw themselves at him!...guys mental strength is beyond my comprehension

and you could probably run him as a goal line Q for the first couple years

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
Aside from my man crush on Tebow, I thought LeFevour would be a pretty good value pick maybe at the top of the 3rd round.

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
Honestly, I don't want any of them. Like someone else said, for me its Clausen/Bradford or no QB in this draft. Trying to draft a franchise QB in the 2nd round or higher is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. For second rounders, its something like a ~75% bust rate and only gets worse as the rounds go on. Yeah Brees and Henne are second rounders...they are the exception NOT the rule.
However, if we had to choose one:
1. Colt McCoy - 3rd round
2. Tim Tebow - not interested
3. Dan Lefevour - 3/4th round
4. Tony Pike - 3rd round
5. Sean Canfield - haven't seen him play

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
I kinda share the same opinion. But its looking like that may never happen. You could put Manning in there and if WR's cant catch, and lineman can't block, whats he gonna do? So why spend a first round pick on a QB?
So I think it benefits the Rams more to take guys who look promising and try to develop them while the Offense develops. The Lions are doing it backwards, they took Stafford before their offense was ready, and he got pounded like a piece of meat every game.

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
How have you guys not seen Canfield? Did you watch the upset of USC last year? But he's not on much since they play on the west coast, he's looked good against grade A teams, but still unproven.
I have not heard this yet, please share with me why you feel that he is round 1 worthy? (no sarcasm I'm being serious, noone has this guy going in the 1st round).
I love Tebow, and I have a man crush on him too, I'd love to see him produce at the next level. Good point about left handers having funky throwing motions, I'm convinced that a good QB coach can improve his mechanics.

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
Okay, my man crush is on Colt McCoy, just getting that out of my system right now. But just an inference and my 2 cents about what would be interesting here.
Before the college football season got underway, during what could be the equal of OTAs in the NFL, Tim Tebow was working specifically on the things that he was being critiqued on. But, once the season got here, as Urban said, "The season has started, so all this talk about turning Tim into an NFL quarterback for this season can be thrown out the window. Our priority is this season, and that's what we're working on."
But, now "this season" is over, and there is still QUITE some time before the combine, yet alone the draft. You can bet your dollars that Tebow, right now (metaphorically and physically very likely) is working with somebody on the things that he has been informed of day in and day out for most of his college career. Not saying you can transform everything in a single offseason, but who is to say a guy who works that hard couldn't iron out some of the physical stuff?
I wouldn't be surprised if Tebow shows up at the combine and either does the passing drills, or declines and does his own at a Florida Pro Day. Either way, it is very possible that when the coaches give him a "courtesy visit" and when he starts up the drills and showcase, they think in their head, "Wait a minute...that doesn't look like how Tim Tebow threw the ball..."
It is the NFL, there are millions and millions of dollars at stake, if you don't think Tebow is working with the best of the best right now to improve his situation and draft status, you are wrong. He could come in looking like he does and say, "Take me as I am, and give me a chance." But I have a feeling he is going to be smart, and he is going to work on the stuff, and he won't look 100% like he has to us in his last college season. He will be more refined and polished, and his throwing motion could very well look much more like a natural QB should.

Re: Top 5 Senior QB's
ESPN just said Tebow plans on playing in the senior bowl...too bad the rams didn't get to coach one of the teams...anyone know why that is btw?
