Trade with KC for Allen

What are your thoughts of a trade with KC for Jared Allen? Maybe trade first round picks this year and a pick next. What do you think it would take?

Re: Trade with KC for Allen

It'd take us more than our first round pick to get him. They may also want a 3rd this year.

As I see it, if we can get Chris Long or Vernon Gholston we shouldnt worry about Allen. He's going to request quite a bit of money we probably don't have.

Re: Trade with KC for Allen

not a good idea smith. dude already has issues with suspensions from the league and one more incident would get him sidelined for a year. not worth the risk. chris long would give us what we need at d-end without the baggage.

Jared Allen is a Drunk, He has 3 DUI's in the past 4 years, which is why the Chief won't give him a long term deal and he wants out of KC. No Thanks!

I agree and would stay clear of Jared Allen.

Quote:
Allen has been arrested/charged for Driving Under the Influence a total of 3 times within 4 years. Once in Pocatello, Idaho, on May 11, 2002, and twice within 5 months in Leawood, Kansas on May 11, 2006 and on September 26, 2006. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail as a result of the latter arrest.

In March 2007, Allen voiced his displeasure with the Chiefs' refusal to give him a long-term contract extension. Due to Allen's recent arrests, the Chiefs offered Allen a one-year contract and will judge upon his performance both on and off the field to see if he will be a long-term player in Kansas City. No offers were made for Allen throughout free-agency due to the Chiefs' high tender for his trade (two first-round draft picks). On April 27, 2007, it was announced that Allen was suspended for the first four games of the 2007 Chiefs' season, and he will return to the Chiefs and "will do everything [he] can to help bring a championship back to the great fans of KC." On May 22, Allen signed a one-year contract worth $2.5 million, but will have to forfeit $552,941 of his $2.35 million contract because of a four-game suspension for driving under the influence. On July 16, Allen's suspension was reduced to two games following an appeal.

Minnesota pretty much has him locked up with giving away their 1st and 3rd.

Re: Trade with KC for Allen

Minnesota are trying to trade for him, but have said if they cant do a deal they will just sign Allen to an offer sheet. If thats true then Kansas wont even bother trying to do a deal for Allen, as Minnesota would have to give up two first rounders to get him because he is a franchise player.

Im not sure how it works, but with the two first rounders do they have to be this year or can one be a future pick?

either way, the cost is too high for the Rams when we are in prime position to pick a pass rusher in the top 5 of the draft and it will only cost us one first round draft pick

Re: Trade with KC for Allen

.
That drunk led the league in sacks, he had three forced fumbles
and he had 18 pressures - all on a very bad KC Chiefs team. And he did all that even though he missed two games via suspension.

"In his first game back from the suspension against the Vikings, he had nine tackles, two sacks, a pressure and a pass defended. He also forced Adrian Peterson to fumble.

Coming in on offense in goal line situations, he also caught a pair of one-yard touchdown passes. He was named a starter on the Pro Bowl."

Teams didn't have to throw everydown - far from it.

THIS GUY WAS A 4TH ROUND PICK!

Even if Allen didn't have off-field issues, I'd still pass on him given the Rams overall situation right now. The reason I'd pass has nothing to do with whether Jared is any good or not. He IS good! Right now we have a great opportunity to find some talented young players on the cheap, particularly when one considers how high we pick in each round. Yes if we keep our #2 overall pick, whoever we select will have a hefty price tag, but after that, the players we acquire will be more reasonably priced. With the necessity of negotiating new contracts for S. Jackson and Atogwe looming in the very near future, combined with our current cap situation, we need an infusion of affordable talent - talent that if we've done our homework, (a little luck won't hurt either), will exceed what we will be paying them for the next few years. The FO and coaching staff are banking on it .. Let's hope the Rams braintrust can set a new trend starting next Saturday ...

Jared Allen led the league in sacks for approx 112 yard lost

He had 18 pressures. Forced 3 fumbles. Scored two touchdowns, numerous passes defensed.

When Allen came out, in the 2004 Draft, we were interested in a Defensive End - but we took Anthony Hargrove - and we took him a lot earlier than when Jared Allen was selected.

We've whiffed a lot in the Draft and that's why we're picking No.2
in the NFL.

Not worth the risk, especially when we have the 2nd pick in the draft.

Re: Trade with KC for Allen

Let's say KC trades Allen to the Vikes for the vikes 1st and 3rd. The Cheifs then offer up their 1st(5th overall) and their 3rd (5th in the 3rd round) for our 1st(2nd overall). Would you do it??

If we whiff on that guy I am OK as long as we get somebody with talent and charater. Oh yeah we got Hargrove.......
