    Trading up for Hawk

Where abouts do you think we would have to be to be able to get Hawk, and what do you think we would have to give to be able to get him?

We cant afford to give up too many draft picks as we would need to draft a TE as well, as well as some linemen

    Re: Trading up for Hawk

There's some thought that the Jets may take Hawk, but I don't think they take him that high. I think New York will take whatever player the Saints don't take, either Ferguson or Mario Williams.

Jets head coach Eric Mangini was a part of the Pats staff from 2000-2005, and during that time, four of the Patriots' six first round picks have been lineman. I think Mangini will carry that build-from-the-inside-out philosophy with him to New York, and take either Super Mario or D'Brick, which leaves Hawk available at fifth.

So if Green Bay at fifth overall is the target, we'd likely have to trade with Green Bay at fifth overall, and it would cost us at least our first and second round picks and probably a late rounder or a 2007 pick.

    Re: Trading up for Hawk

What if the rumours about Denver moving up to fifth to take Davis, would they still take Davis is Hawk is there? And would the Niners trade with us when they need all the help they can get on defense?

    Re: Trading up for Hawk

Who knows, at that point. If Denver moves to five and takes Davis, I think the Niners stay put and take Hawk, personally.

If for some reason they don't take Hawk, maybe they take Huff instead, then I'd start talking with Oakland about trading to the seven spot, which would cost us our first, third, and either a second day pick or a 2007 pick.

But it's hard enough speculating on how things will play out with no trades involved. Everything gets cluttered when you start factoring in trades, which is one of the reasons I leave them out of my mocks.

I would give up the #11 plus a second round plus a #5 or #6 for hawk and not hesitate for a second. Tight end is a luxery item. An impact linebacker is a necessity.

    Re: Trading up for Hawk

my guesstimation is that the rams FO does not want to go into the top 5 for salary cap and signing bonus constraints...

they're probably targeting one or two players, like huff and/or davis, to somehow drop to the #8 spot where buffalo is thought to want to move down several spot to take an o-lineman or a DT...

it's not out of the realm of possibility that hawk may fall all the way to #8...stranger things have been known to happen on draft days...aka steven jackson and alex barron...
it may cost the rams a 3rd and possibly a later 2nd day pick to secure the #8 spot, if huff or davis is available...

It should only cost a third according to the chart. In fact, our first and third have a greater value than Buffalo's first, so that might be more incentive for them to move down.

unless, a bidding war ensues...between several teams wanting to trade up for davis or huff...

    Re: Trading up for Hawk

This year is the exception. I think this year you trade up and get one of those elite 8.

Like GC said, let's do it!

Hawk is a special linebacker. Look at all the draft picks we've made that turned into absolutely nothing.

    I think 1) Hawk 2) Huff 3) Mario 4) Ngata

The first 3 are worth trading up for and I think it's not even close. If these 4 are gone, we need to move back and pick up more picks.

I can't in my wildest dreams see Davis going at 5. Teams, for the most part, don't value Tight Ends that high. Really good tight ends can and have been picked up all through the draft.

I really like Huff as well, but I don't see how you can put him over Super Mario.

If we trade up, it will be to get Vernon Davis. (Based on comments by Linehan).

I agree Big Redman and quite frankly I don't have a problem with that but others do. We are in dier need of a great Tightend and Manu and Cleeland aren't that. Manu is horrible. But also we are in dier need of a great LB. Plenty of those thugh but only one Vernon Davis type player.

Trade up to 7th or 8th for the 11th and a 3rd rounder, get Huff, draft Marcedes Lewis in the 2nd, and call it a day (one).
