    Jake Long to visit Rams

" ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Jake Long is "in the process of scheduling a visit" to the #Rams. Rodger Saffold would likely move to RT."

    - Evan Silva

Let's give him a physical and lock him up!!!!!!

When he was healthy, his first 3-4 years in the league he looked like a potential HOF'er. Injuries have slowed him, but he can't just lose all that talent, I'll say that. If we can lock him up and he can stay healthy, DAMN! Sam will be ecstatic.

This is one of the most fun moments of the offseason. Still I'd rather the Rams keep Amendola and grab a safety/TE.

This is unfortunate in terms of moving Saffold to RT and play Long at LT. I'd keep Saffold at LT, where he's been fine, and move Long to RT where he'd probably be more effective anyways. But that's probably a non-starter for Jake since it'd be a smaller contract.

That one was from Omar Kelly, a Dolphins beat writer.

How great does Long, Warmack/Cooper, Wells, Dahl, Saffold sound?

I actually prefer Long at LT and Saffold at RT. Imagine our pass pro next year? Get 1 guard and Sam would love his life.

I'm of the camp that has always felt Long would be a better right tackle than a left tackle. And I'm not sure if Saffold has the power as a run blocker for the right side.

I trust this coaching staff to play guys where they think they'll be best, but there's a part of me that wonders if Long won't sign with a team as a right tackle so the only way to get him is on the left side.

NFLN is reporting the same thing. Yeah that line is very very good!

Perhaps. But even then, Long has been considered a top 3 LT in this league since he was drafted, so he must be doing something right. I think the bigger worry is Saffold at RT, but he's got 1 year left on his deal and can't stay healthy. Long should be the long term answer at LT, whereas we can roll with Saffold at RT for a year and see how he fares. If he's good, re-sign him. If not, move on.

I prefer it like that anyways. Saffold is a good pass blocker, so that would definitely be a switch up from most RT's, especially the one's we've had. Sam would actually have some time for once. Get him a TE and WR, and our offense actually looks good for once.

    Here's an interesting thought...

OTs typically want to play the LT spot because it puts them in a higher market for FA dollars. But, at Long's age, this will likely be his last premium contract. If the Rams pay him LT money, maybe he'd willingly play the right side in 2013. Then, in 2014, if the Rams don't want to re-sign Saffold, they could move Long back to the LT spot and draft a RT.

Paul Bordreau isn't gonna care how much money he makes, if he is better suited at RT then Saffold is, and vice versa, you best believe thats where he will play. I think Long still has it in him to be a top LEFT tackle when healthy, so really I think it won't be an issue.
