Normally yes, it is annoying..unless the spouse is exceedingly hot. For instance...Lauren Tannehill can thrust herself into whatever spotlight her heart desires.

Re: UPDATE: Jake Long has left St Louis without a signed contract...

Update from Jim Thomas in the Post Dispatch:

On Thursday night, Rams executive vice president Kevin Demoff tweeted a picture of himself seated with Condon and Dogra at what looked like a restaurant table. All were grinning. To many observers this looked like a prologue to a contract for Long. After all, why send out such a picture if negotiations had fallen apart or were going poorly?

Speculation ran rampant as to why Long left town. But the logical explanation was the two sides are apart on money, too far to close the gap and get a deal done. Medically, Long checked out fine in St. Louis; there were no red flags.

According to USA Today, the Dolphins were mounting a counterattack Friday to re-sign Long. He had been seeking $10 million to $11 million a year at one time to re-sign with Miami but lowered his demands.
Reporters can keep talking about how Long checked out medically and the Rams had no red flags, but it seems to me if that were the case, then they wouldn't have had much problem paying him, especially if as Thomas says Long had lowered his demands from the $10-11 million a year total he was once seeking. If guys like Jermon Bushrod and Will Beatty can get $7+ million annually with $19-22 million guaranteed, then a healthy Long is worth more.

I suspect (or perhaps hope) that, regardless of what the medical reports said, the Rams were smart and insisted the contract include some staggered bonus payouts that would give them security in case injury became an issue again. Maybe this didn't sit well with Long/his agent, so they broke it off. But teams have to protect themselves in this league, and Long's medical file isn't exactly thin.

All in all, perhaps it was for the best he didn't sign here. Only time will tell.

You would think a guy getting interest from multiple teams...spending 3 days with a highly interested team with cap room...then having his original team making hard push at him he would already be signed

Either its the media riding this thing out with their wording or Jake is just living up to his last name and taking a while to decide

Or his agent is trying to holdout for deal that is probably not going to happen and end up hurting his client

Searching google for his latest status has hit a snag

    Jake Long - T - Dolphins

The Palm Beach Post reports that "momentum appears to be growing" for free agent left tackle Jake Long to re-sign with the Dolphins.
Long flew back to Miami on Friday night after spending three days in St. Louis getting poked and prodded by the Rams' medical staff. The Dolphins are reportedly "making a charge" to sign Long, but the money isn't expected to be close to what he wants -- $10 million annually. Long's offensive line teammates are campaigning for a return, but in the end money talks.

Jake Long and his wife have spent time in the Dolphins facility since returning home from St. Louis, I'm told, including today.

The most recent Tweets indicate that Long is mulling over offers from both teams. My guess is that the Rams' offer is slightly better than Miami's.

If he was offered the same or better money from the Dolphins, he probably would have re-signed already. Likewise, if the Rams' offer was far superior, he probably would have signed before he left St. Louis.

Clearly though, the Rams are not going to keep offering more and more until Jake is satisfied. They made their offer and Jake needs to make a decision.

    From NFL.com:

Jake Long deciding on Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams

For Jake Long, it appears that it's come down to a fresh start with the St. Louis Rams or a return to the Miami Dolphins.

Long has a contract in hand from the Rams, while the Dolphins have made it clear how far they're willing to go to financially to retain Long, according to team sources.

NFL.com's Jeff Darlington reported Saturday that the offers from the Rams and Dolphins are very similar in terms of total worth.

According to Breer, Long is back home in Florida making a decision. His eventual signing should spark further movement on the offensive tackle market. Fellow free-agent tackles Andre Smith and Sebastian Vollmer are represented by the same firm as Long.

ESPN reported early Friday morning that the Dolphins were making a "strong push" to re-sign Long, who entered the market looking for an annual salary that matched the $11 million he averaged over the first five years of his career.

He's unlikely will sniff that, no matter where he ends up.

    Jake Long - T - Dolphins

Free agent LT Jake Long didn't meet with Dolphins brass on Saturday.
Apparently, they were all already in Arizona for the owner's meetings. All has been mysteriously quiet on the Long front since he left St. Louis on Friday, suggesting either he can't get anyone to up their offers, or a quiet bidding war has ensued. We'd guess the former. Per reporter Armando Salguero, the ball is in Long's court.

    Jake Long - T - Dolphins

Rams GM Les Snead indicated Sunday evening that the club remains optimistic about its chances of landing free agent Jake Long.
"We're still chatting," said Snead, adding that Long's "health is not a problem" after he passed a battery of physical exams in St. Louis. Obviously, money is going to determine where Long lands. He will sign with the highest bidder.

Buzz I am hearing among GMs is that Jake Long will end up back in Miami. Rams still in the hunt but this isn't wreaking of a bidding war

    Jake Long - T - Dolphins

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora passes along "buzz among GMs" that free agent Jake Long is likely to re-sign with the Dolphins.
Perhaps Long was using the Rams as a leverage ploy all along, though La Canfora concedes St. Louis is "still in the hunt." SI's Peter King predicted that we'll have an answer on Long's 2013 whereabouts by tonight or early Monday. Once Long picks a destination, look for Andre Smith and Sebastian Vollmer to sign deals shortly thereafter. All three are repped by the same agency (CAA).

If he was getting something that he wanted (like 10 mil + per, which he won't) I'd say the Rams had been used. Since Long will be taking a pay cut to stay in Miami (which he would of had he come to STL as well) he and his agents basically just wasted everybody's time.

If they manage to sign Volmer or Smith I won't care so much.
