We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
We have several needs but as Devaney said there are a lot of options at WR. We have 3 young WRs with good potential. We really only have 1 WR starting spot open. Avery is a lock for the other starting WR position. If we just sign a veteran that can push for the starting job and see what these younger guys can do we should be okay in the passing game. Remember Jackson missed 4 games last year and he normally catches screen passes and check downs. McMichael our big target in the passing game was out almost all last year. We have added blocking in Brown, Karney, and soon to be Bajema. We will also have a heavier Bell, a healthy Setterstrom, and another year of expierence for Greco and Schuening. Not to mention we will be running the ball more this year which should help us stay out of so many 3rd and longs (obvious passing downs).
IMO we first need to fix MLB, NT, OT, SLB.Last edited by RamsSB99; -03-19-2009 at 12:34 AM.

Re: We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
We need help at WR whether it be through the draft or free agency. I don't think our WR group as it stands now is going to scare anyone. It's alot tougher to run the ball with 8 and/or 9 men in the box.
Maybe HUbison could take a look into his crystal ball and give us some idea of what to expect from our WR group for the 2009 season?

Re: We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
If we are going to run the Wishbone a lot, we only need one receiver on the field. And Avery fits that role the best. The best WR for a Wishbone offense isn't a big guy and who can jump and catch anything, it's the fast WR that can get the best YAC after a 4 yard slant.

Plus Otto Grahm may ban the forward pass, so we should be ok.

Re: We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
I agree that if we pick up a good veteran to hold everything together, we could skip on a WR on day one of the draft. When you think about it, drafting another rookie WR is not going to help our already young corps. It's just adding more inexperience to the bunch.

Re: We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
I don't think that WR is the biggest need, but I do see a strong likelihood that the Rams will take a WR in Round 2-4.
As far as signing a veteran... who? I don't see too many starting WRs on the market right now. Do you?
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

I wouldn't mind a Ageing Veteran WR as long as he came Cheap. Which most won't do. Amoni Toomer sounds good to me. Big Receiver to catch balls over the middle. You never know it could be Avery WR #1, Burton as WR#2 and Stanley as the Slot #3.

Re: We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
Remember we only have three receivers. I think we should sign a veteran wide receiver (Toomer sounds good) and draft a receiver. I agree that we have quite a few holes to fill, but WR is one of them.

Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Toomer? I would pass on him his knees aren't that great and his attitude is not the greatest. I would take a risk on a younger guy in FA with potential like D.J. Hackett

Re: We don't need a WR in the first 3 rounds!!!
I tend to feel the same. It's not that we don't need a receiver--we do--but there are so many other things we need worse. I'd feel like we had improved the team more with Curry, Smith, or Monroe than if we took Crabtree. Likewise, I'd feel better taking Hood, Brace, or a linebacker or offensive tackle (depending on what we did in round 1) than if we went with say Nicks or Britt.

Marvin Harrison? Dad gum guys, we don't have the money to sign all young players with perfect bodies.. the Patriots get away with signing one or two vets who are on their last rodeo and make it work....why can't the Rams?

I would like it if we took Ramses Barden in the 4th. He is a big guy and is a great threat in the red zone.
