What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
With the amount of talent that's fallen to the fourth round so far and the large amount of holes we still have on our roster, I'm curious as to how the Clan would feel if we parted with Barron.
At the moment, I'm more than happy with Barron as our starter at RT for the final year of his contract. He'll be a veteran presence in the locker room and whilst he's far from the best first round draft choice we've ever made, he's a beacon of solidity barring his obvious inability to count. By now, we can safely say that he's not special, but he's not "special", either. I'd be content with Barron at RT and Saffold learning the ropes behind him or starting at guard for a year.
BUT.
I'd kind of like us to be in position to draft more than one of the top players who have fallen out of the first three rounds. If we have a chance to add Griffen and Hernandez via a trade for Barron, I would have to think about it long and hard. What's more, if we could package our 5's together to get into the late fourth, we could end up with three players of value, assuming they're not taken.
So what is Alex Barron worth to you? Would you take a fourth round pick in this year's draft in exchange for his services?
There are a number of teams who could use a starting caliber RT, especially those seeking to make a one-year crack at a Superbowl. The Colts, the Eagles and the Cowboys spring instantly to mind. On top of that, teams like Buffalo, Denver and Cleveland could all be looking to protect the investments they've made in QBs and RBs.
All of this begs the question: What is Alex Barron worth to you?

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
I would be fine with that as well. Some have said Saffold might be better suited for Guard. I also would not mind trading Barron for a late 4th or early 5th. Currently I want Griffen but would not be upset if we took Campbell because Barron won't be here long term. If Campbell works out then we leave Saffold at guard and if Campbell needs some seasoning we have Fraley, Greco, or Setterstrom at Guard and Saffold at OT until Campbell can get worked in at OT and slide Saffold to Guard.
Scenario 1:
OT J. Smith
G Bell
C Brown
G Saffold
OT Barron
Scenario 2:
OT J. Smith
G Bell
C Brown
G Saffold
OT Campbell
Scenario 3:
OT J. Smith
G Bell
C Brown
G Fraley / Greco / Setterstrom

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
While this talk is all well and good, i believe Alex Barron would have to sign his tender before he can be traded, and he has not signed it at the moment

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
Indeed Tomahawk, i would love to have Barron for another year at RT and throw Saffold into the mix at guard, or he can get the boot. Barron really needs to sign his tender because how many options does he think he have? Some team would pick him up, but we'd probably pay him more than another team would due to his history and situation.

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
Since the deadline for teams to sign him has passed, his only option is to sign his tender. His only chance to go to another team would be to have signed his tender so we could trade him. Since he hasn't, oh well. He'll be on our roster this year like it or not.
I believe!

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
I'd trade Barron for pretty much whatever we could get. Put him in a package for Haynesworth or Osi or Andre Carter. Or trade him straight up for a fifth rounder. Or trade him for a decent guard to replace Incognito. He's not much of a force in the running game. His penalties put us in 3rd and long situations way too often. He's a drive killer plain and simple.

I wouldnt mind having him as a backup, but if we could get even a 6th for him, hell i'd trade him in a snap count...

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
He's a great stopgate while Saffold works at guard, and an example of what good depth is. He is probably worth more to us than anyone else. But, if he was to have a price it would be a 2nd round IMO

I would take a 6th for him at this point.

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
Frankly, at this point, I'd just as soon keep him either as the starting RT or even a backup. The value of a 6th or 7th round pick is low, and we could use the depth.
Ideally, if he plays like a guy anticipating his next contract, Saffold can be broken in at OG and then slide out to RT in 2011.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
I'm guessing Saffold is going to be focusing on RT all training camp. The Rams need 3 OTs and this solidifies that in 2010.

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
Barron is still a good blocker and will be needed in 2010. After that, who cares unless he suddenly gets it and starts playing with passion and stops the false starts.

Re: What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
I really doubt Saffold was drafted at that uber-valuable #33 spot to compete for guard. If so, why the heck did The Rams get Fraley & what happens to Greco, never mind Sett ? Depth & competition is one thing but that's a glut. This guy needs to be a serious contender to fill the RT spot permanently or he's Schuening Redux & an expensive wasted pick .
Not sure how the tender deadline stuff affects his "tradeability" but Barron is either gone or will just ease Saffold into that RT spot, like Feeley will for Sam, then ride the pine as a back-up,imo. The latter is my preference since he is still a better option at either tackle spot as an injury replacement than Goldberg, imo.

Whats he worth? A pack of Oreo cookies. Double stuff of course.
In an uncapped year? Keep him for his tender to see how Saffold pans out.The Breakfast Club. You want cheese with that?
