What number will the Rams pick? (Your one-stop shop for all the possibilities)
For those of you who are wondering, here is how the “race” for the top 6 picks in the draft looks right now:
(The tiebreaking procedure is (1) strength of schedule, (2) conference record, (3) coin toss)
1. Indianapolis: 1-13/.544/1-9
2. Minnesota: 2-12/.587/2-8
3. St. Louis: 2-12/.564/1-10
4. Tampa Bay: 4-10/549/3-7
5. Jacksonville: 4-10/.533/3-7
6. Cleveland: 4-10/.495/3-7
Here are the remaining games for each team:
Indianapolis: Houston, @Jacksonville
Minnesota:@Washington, Chicago
St. Louis: @Pittsburgh, San Francisco
Tampa Bay: @Carolina, @Atlanta
Jacksonville: @Tennessee, Indianapolis
Cleveland: @Baltimore, Pittsburgh
Looking at these schedules, I think we can all agree that it is unlikely that the Rams will go 2-0 and set up a potential tiebreaker scenario with Tampa, Jacksonville or Cleveland. That said, given the relative strengths of schedules, it is mathematically possible that the Rams could fall to the 6th pick.
The Rams do, however, have a reasonable chance of moving up. If the Rams lose their final two and Minnesota wins one (home game against a deflated Bears team is certainly possible), they jump to the second pick (I have not run the #s on whether the Rams can jump the Vikings based on SOS alone but, given that the Rams' final two opponents have better records than Minnesota's, I believe it may be possible for such a shift to occur).
As for the Rams’ chances of getting the first pick, it can only happen if the Colts win their last two and the Rams lose out. If they end up with the same record, the Colts will continue to have the weaker strength of schedule, thereby assuring them of the first pick.

Perfect timing with the thread today. I was just about to have a look on NFL.COM and check the remaining games. If I was a betting man, my money would be third spot.? Which to me, is looking like a good place to be in this draft.?

I'd say (and this is just off the cuff):
First pick: 5%
Second pick: 40%
Third pick: 50%
Fourth-Sixth pick: 5%
The difference between the 2nd and 3rd pick could be significant, given that the Vikings and Rams have similar needs (WR, OT, CB).

A lot will depend on if the Rams go with McD again next year.? If this is the case, I'll be thinking more towards O-lineman for the draft. The best case scenario for me, would be getting rid of McD, and then drafting Blackmon.? Then making the offense into some kind of WC theme, both helping the line and our QB in the process.?

Nice post. I'd like to see the rest of the scenarios. But how come the team with the easier schedule gets an earlier pick? Shouldn't it be the other way around..
Pretty weird rule to me.

If team A had an easier schedule than team B, and they both have the same record, you would think team A is the weaker team for losing to lesser teams. Therefore, they get an earlier pick.

Correct. In other words, the worst teamis the team with the worst record against the weakest opponents.

#2 we lose our last 2 games and Minnesota beats Chicago.

thanks for posting this. Was hoping someone would.
In my opinion we draft 3rd at the rate things are going
Viking select Kalil.
Rams either draft Blackmon or trade for pick. Im really hoping we grab Blackmon.

If i'm reading this correctly then dont the Rams have a legitimate shot at the #1 pick?
We lose out.
Indy beats Jacksonville.
