Re: Who do you want in Round 1 (Late January Edition)

I selected Monroe based on primary need. We may be able to solve the OT problem in FA, although given what I read the other day on another thread we may be unable to afford a top flight OT like Jordan Gross. Bulger should be willing to restructure his deal to allow for more money to spend, after all he would be the chief beneficiary of a better OT.

Having said all that, if we go a different direction I would vote Aaron Curry. He appears to be that special type of LB who makes big plays and I imagine he'll be in the Pro Bowl after his first or second year. I recall reading the Devaney was very high on Curry. But we have learned Billy will zig when we all think he'll zag and vice versa. All told, I'm liking our choices, because this will be a deep draft for OL's.

    Go Rams!

We are not all over the place.

all of us agree it should not be a QB or CB

since Smith only has 1 vote (right now) most of us agree if an OT is chosen it should not be Smith.

And it looks like the real question is Monroe or Curry

With only 28 votes in, we've already got representation for at least 7 or 8 different names covering 5 different positions.

I'd say there's some variance in opinions. Which IMO is good for this time of the year.

I like the idea of signing a top OT in FA like gross if hes available and then taking crabtree but the priority is a OT so I voted Monroe

As of right now 33 people have voted and only 2 players have more than 10% of the votes

    Currry or Monroe

    So little variance not much.

Fine, nutz. You're right. We are not all over the place. We know exactly who we want. We don't know if he's a LB, DT, WR, or OT, but yea, we know exactly who he is.

Man I am so torn with what we should do. A few weeks ago I thought Andre Smith was a lock. Then I jumped on the Crabtree bandwagon. Curry has crossed my mind. And now I'm voting for Monroe. All in all. I'm a wreck. I think we have to throw needs out the window. The past two years we have the worst record in the NFL, yeah even worse than the Lions. That means we should take the BPA, regardless of position. Even though I'm strongly against it, if Billy thinks Stafford or Sanchez is the bpa, we should pick them and deal with Bulger's cap later. It sucks, but thats where we are, we suck.

Re: Who do you want in Round 1 (Late January Edition)

I find the spread of the results interesting. And, as HUb stated, things will change as we move towards April. The Combine will impact things (imagine how opinions of Crabtree would differ if he runs a 4.3 as opposed to a 4.6), as will individual workouts (you know that the scouts will try to get Andre Smith to demonstrate in drills that he can handle an outside speed rush).

Right now, I'm on the Raji banwaggon (actually, I think I'm its driver). A few weeks ago, I was in A.Smith's corner. I won't be surprised if my own opinion evolves over time.

That's what makes this time of year interesting.

The combine can only help the opinions of Crabtree right now. I personally don't think he should be a top 5 pick, but if he runs a 4.3 (which I highly doubt he can) his fans will say he is the next Calvin Johnson and if he runs a 4.6 all his fans will claim he was never a burner and is going to be the next Fitzgerald (who ran a 4.62).

Re: Who do you want in Round 1 (Late January Edition)

If he runs a 4.6, he could just as easily be the next Mike Williams as the next Larry Fitzgerald. Compare the stats of the two players in their last year in college:

Mike Williams: 95 receptions, 1,314 yards, 16 TDs
Michael Crabtree: 97 receptions, 1,165 yards, 19 TDs

Williams was too slow to separate from NFL DBs, and his career has been a bust. If Crabtree can't run a 4.5, there's no way I'd consider him with the second pick in the draft.

But thats what they said about Fitzgerald before he was drafted. He ran a 4.62 40 time and wouldnt be able to seperate from CB's. It sure appears hes getting seperation now-too much stock in the combine stats.

Re: Who do you want in Round 1 (Late January Edition)

So what? Fitzgerald is one player. For every guy like him, who has enough ability to play in the NFL without top line speed, there are numerous players who fail to make it because they're just not fast enough.

I don't know where Crabtree falls. Maybe he CAN run a 4.5. Maybe he can't, but can overcome his lack of speed as Fitzgerald has.

All I'm saying is, if he CAN'T run a 4.5, I would not invest the 2nd pick in the draft on him. Particularly given that there are other pressing needs.

Because I would rather have a MLB or an OT before a WR. Read Av's posts. I think Crabtree is a liability. His speed is questionable. Once the combine comes around, I may changed my mind when the results are in, but for now, I would rather take the first four than Crabtree.
