Who does ClanRam Prefer? Robinson or Matthews?

Who do you guys prefer? Greg Robinson or Jake Matthews. Let's just say at this hypothetical we stay at #2 and are forced to pick one or the other. Who do you slide with?

Robinson is 6'5, 332 lbs, 35" arms. Ran a 4.92 forty today with a 1.69 10 yard split. Dominant run blocker, needs refining in the pass pro.

Matthews is 6'5, 307 lbs. Ran a 5.07 forty yard dash with a 1.70 10 yard split. Technician with nice balance, can get overpowered.

I prefer the more technically sound prospect in Matthews, but I don't think you could go wrong either way. IMO, both are Top Five talents in this class and worthy options for the Rams' pick.

Prefer Matthews. Don't have to worry if he will learn how to be a good pass protector or not. Is not raw. He is ready day one to step into any position on the line basically.

I think it's safe to say we "need" help on the offensive line. I wouldn't be mad if we took Robinson or Matthews in rd 1 and then addressed the OG position in rd 2 with a guy like Xavier Su'a Filo or Gabe Jackson.

Whichever one I can get at 13 or later.

After the combine performances that may be neither, but Lewan also impressed and I would be much happier with him at 13 or later, than Mathews or Robinson at 2.

Though I believe Robinson has a distinct advantage over Mathews.

He's bigger, stronger, quicker, faster, more athletic and has a greater wingspan.

Re: Who does ClanRam Prefer? Robinson or Matthews?

For me the upside of Greg Robinson seems to tip the scale. Next yr, Jake even if he misses a few beg games, will be on the left, and Greg could do LG while learning not only from the coaches but from Jake as well. One of the issues it seemed to be was last yr the running game had a hard time getting any lanes open or push at all. Seeing that Fisher wants to be more run heavy it might help this offense to go in that direction. Won't cry if its Matthews, but I slightly prefer Robinson for those reasons.

So to actually answer the hypothetical that started this post, if you had to stay @ 2 and take one of these two tackles, are we to assume based on those comments you'd be voting for Robinson?

As for Lewan, waiting for him @ 13 could be a risky idea after today; he's been receiving a lot of great reviews for his workout performance as well and some are putting him back in the Top 10 discussion. It's entirely possible if not probable he doesn't get by Tennessee or New York, both of whom could use OL upgrades.

If we were to go OL at 13, and making the assumption we don't move down at Two, Houston takes JC, who would we take there that is worthy of that pick? Is Watkins worthy of a number 2 selection?

Re: Who does ClanRam Prefer? Robinson or Matthews?

To be honest, I don't care at all just as long as the Rams come away with one of them. Compared to the Rams coaches, I'm completely ignorant about how easy technique is to coach, how long it would take, where they'd fit in our line, what their upside is, etc.

If they prefer one over the other, great. I'll just be happy with a top 5 tackle.

To directly answer the hypothetical, yes I would take the one I thought had the distinct advantage. in this case it's Robinson.

Re: Who does ClanRam Prefer? Robinson or Matthews?

    It's tough.

Would you rather have Joe Thomas or Walter Jones?

Matthews has more versatility, Robinson a huge upside.

Matthews the better pass blocker, the more experienced, Robinson the roadgrader.

And Taylor Lewan made himself a top 10 guy too.

Either one is gonna be agreat addition to the Rams, and hopefully they can deal down to 6th and take whichever is there.

Falcon GM Thomas Demitroff mentioned his relationship with Snead the other day when asked about a deal up.

They could deal up for EITHER Robinson or Clowney now.

In the end, I take the deal down, and take whichever of the OT remains

    In a dream scenario:

1 - Texans take Blake Bortles
2 - Trade down to #4, CLE takes Manziel
    3 - JAX takes Clowney/Bridgewater
4 - We acquire an extra pick or two from CLE and we still land Matthews and or Robinson

AT #2 I would only be happy with Robinson or Watkins.....maybe if one of the 2 Cornerbacks proves to seperate from the rest....but doubtful

I don't know how realistic that hypothetical is, to be honest. If Houston goes Clowney, then surely someone will want to move up and have their pick of the QBs. Plus, if the Rams are on the clock with the second pick, they wouldn't know for sure that they'll be able to go OL for sure @ 13.

    Thanks for clarifying.
