Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
The draft is a crapshoot with the Rams lately and no one is all that excited about this draft. I'm trying to hold out hope of some sort of Free Agent miracle.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
I just hope we pick the biggest baddest O-lineman in the draft.2 if possible.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
Since you asked...the biggest OT in the draft in Texas A&M's Jami Hightower (6'4", 355 lbs) & the biggest OG is Florida's Mo Mitchell (6'7", 367 lbs). Neither is ranked too high and will go in a late round if drafted at all. But still, how intimidating would it be to have one side of your O-line averaging over 360 pounds.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
The more I read, the more I think Jammal Brown will probably be selected well before the Rams pick.
Still like Merriman.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
I think Merriman is gone before Brown. But if Barnes is as good as his senior bowl week would lead us to believe, I'd be fine with him or Brown. I guess the combine will tell us more.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
I think Merriman's draft position will be largely determined by his 40 time because he is looked at as a "speed rusher" (an overrated measure, to be sure - if you will recall, Terrell Suggs' 40 times disappointed most, but he has had no trouble getting to the QB in the pros).
If he times under a 4.65, he'll probably go higher than the Rams' pick.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
But as you said, Suggs didn't run that well and he was a top 10 pick. I think Merriman is gone. Not to mention, he, like Suggs, is custom-built for a 3-4 defense. As much as I would love to see us go to the 3-4, I don't see Marmie doing it.

it all starts with o-line

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
With 3-4 teams like Dallas (whom I've read want to go 3-4) and Houston, and also teams like Minnesota, KC, New Orleans, and Oakland who just need linebacker help as much if not more than we do, I don't see Merriman making it through all of them to fall to us. And like you, I also don't like him in our system. He'll probably be a talented and productive player, but probably needs to be in the right scheme to do so.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
Mike Williams
I know we need D and OL, but I don't give a crap. I want a big receiver. I like Curtis and MacDonald fine, but I want a big receiver.
Adding a big receiver to this lineup would rock. Totally. Golden. Money.
Let's get this done. Think outside the box.
WE NEED SOME SIZE GOING OVER THE MIDDLE PRONTO.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
Jamal Brown looks like the best choice,if hes still available.Dealing Pace could help us trade up to git him.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
I like JB ,but if he ain't there ,then take Polluck. We had no pressure what soever last season. I don't care if you think what we had was improving or not. the only thing they improved in was maybe getting closer to the QB!!!!!!!! If Polluck is going before Brown , then trade up!!! Our D-Line sucks..........Period!
I stopped going to the dentist.......I got tired of the cavity searches!

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
Now that Okeafor has signed with the cardinals. the logical conclusion is that Bryce Fisher will sign with Seattle.. coupled with LL situation it looks like DE in round 1..
I find it quite disturbing that we haven;t addressed out DB or OL problems at all during FA.. clearly Sapaia, Turner and Tercero will be solid players one day but we can only afford to start one of these three next year, at the rate we are going it might be all three (only takes one injury). I wasn;t expecting us to sign a great RT but at least a solid starter.. shame about Fred Miller.. have to wonder whether things would have been different if Pace signed early..

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
O line for some reason has been low rung on the totem pole for some time. You'd think a team that strives on offense would be more interested in preserving that line.

Re: Who should the Rams select in the first round?
Actually, QB pressure from the D-line is about the only consistency our defense has seen in the past few years.

The real question is: what happened to Little?"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod
