chris long... glenn is a great prospect but if we get another tackle I would rather see someone who is comfortable with playing nose, like pat sims out of auburn in the second

Chris Long without a doubt. We already have two good DT's. We can have Long start immediately.

if we draft Dorsey dont you think Carriker would thrive at his natural position DE?

But it's not his "natural" position; at least not as a professional football player. Look, Adam was an excellent COLLEGE DE, but he just doesn't translate well to an NFL-type DE. His best position is exactly where he's at now, DT. It's in his and the Rams best interests to keep him there.

people need to stop saying move him back to his natural position 3-4 DE and 4-3 DE are two completely different things

Re: who would you rather see playing for us?

Ok, here we go... everyone get yo popcorn ready cuz this will take a while.

To answer the question, Chris Long. Just like I've said since I joined in May. I've said for all these months that Chris is a stud and then he went out and proved it in the fall. Chris played as a one gap DE in a 3-4 that switched to a 4-3 at times as well. As a one gap DE, he played much closer to a 4-3 DE than what most consider a 3-4 DE. In the scheme, Long was concerned with only one gap, either the B or C gap on either side of the tackle. Once that was clogged, he was free to go after the QB as opposed to take up blockers so that the linebackers could get to the QB like San Diego does in their 3-4 scheme. In racking up 14 sacks this year, Al Groh, his coach and a former NFL assistant has said that Long is the second best player he's ever coached. The best? Lawrence Taylor. In playing on a hybrid 3-4/4-3, Long has shown himself to be not only flexible, but dominant in any scheme he's a part of. If there is one player I would guarantee in this draft, it would be Chris Long. As for his possibilities with the Rams, he would step in as the starting Right End opposite Little and should be an every down player with the promise to record double digit sacks and go to the pro bowl every year.

Now, Glenn Dorsey. Showed himself in his first three years to be a top notch 3-technique tackle and would have been a top 15 or top 10 pick as a junior. He stayed for his senior year and seemed primed to be the top pick overall. Unfortunately, he had a sub-par second half to the season due to a sore knee and did not take advantage of the senior bowl like fellow tackle Ellis. Nevertheless, Dorsey still is the top rated DT and should go in the top five. Having won multiple awards in his senior year(Outland, Lombardi, Bronco Nagurski) and being a two time 1st team All American Dorsey has been projected as the most sure thing in the draft by ESPN going on former winners of the same awards. With the Rams, Dorsey would most likely fill Carriker's spot and Carriker would have to switch positions, moving outside and likely being asked to lose 20 or so pounds. Carriker was more of a two gap DE in college, and also played inside at times, which facilitated his move, so it's unknown what would happen when he's tasked with pass rushing full time. Given our need for pass rush talent, we would need to spend another draft pick on a pass rushing DE. The other possibility would be to have both Dorsey and Carriker inside and hope that Little and Hall can be an effective duo when both are healthy. Ryan would continue as a depth NT along with Wroten most likely. Glover would be expendible. If we switch to a 3-4, it is possible that we could run a one gap scheme with AC and Dorsey as DE's and Ryan/Wroten as the NT. The problem then becomes how do we form our LB corps for a 3-4.

Either way, I believe that we come away with a quality defender for the line whom should contribute immediately and for years. Either one should be worth the money paid to a #2 pick. Long, however is a much higher need, and is much more flexible. Our needs, however all change upon what we do in free agency, and so if we pursue certain guys, such as Justin Smith from Cinci, or another pass rusher, then we gain flexibility in our first pick. But until we see what we do in free agency, I have to stick with Long as our #1 choice.

I do agree with you, teke. Long should be atop our draft board. As for when you first fired up his wagon........May.....October....ehh, what's the difference? lol --- just funnin' with ya.

Seriously though, I have to agree and disagree with you about Dorsey. First, I agree.....Ellis' presence at the Senior Bowl has brought him either level with or surpassing Dorsey. Dorsey now finds himself in a position where he MUST workout well at the Combine and Pro day to push back ahead of Ellis.

However, I have to disagree about his senior season. In terms of total tackles and tackles-for-loss, Dorsey was actually better after the injury than before. And his sack per game average was only slightly less after the injury.
