Who's your "darkhorse" for the Rams first pick?

While we seem to have a pretty good handle on the player the Rams will target (Huff, Ngata, Bunkley and Greenway seem to be the frontrunners, with Lawson, T.Hill, J.Williams, V.Davis and A.Cromartie as secondary possibilities), is there a player that nobody seems to be talking about that you could see the Rams taking?

My darkhorse is Donte Whitner. While he may seem a reach at pick 11, he'd be a great fit for the Rams. He could slide into the SS spot as a rookie, allowing Corey Chavous to play FS. He could be the kind of playmaker that the Steelers have in Polamalu.

While I doubt the Rams will pick him at 11, if they trade down a bit, he's a player I'd certainly keep my eyes on.

Re: Who's your "darkhorse" for the Rams first pick?

My darkhorse is Bobby Carpenter. He's flown under the radar with his ankle injury that hindered him in his bowl game this year and for the offseason, but he could be a fix-all for Haslett's D. He's a classic SOLB to pair with the twins (Pisa and Spoon). He can stay on the field in both the 4-3, and 3-4 hybrid. He's a great pass rusher and run stopper.

He's the only true SOLB in the top of the draft, and I could easily see Haslett convincing the war room to go with this ever-so-slight reach.

Re: Who's your "darkhorse" for the Rams first pick?

Well, since this is technically a darkhorse pick...I'll go homer and say DeAngelo Williams.

Steven Jackson hasn't panned out yet...and Williams fits a mold that the Rams haven't had since Marshall Faulk was young and healthy. Williams set the NCAA record last year for total yards and has great hands out of the backfield.

Re: Who's your "darkhorse" for the Rams first pick?

I will say Jay Cutler, if he is still on the board he might be the best player.

Re: Who's your "darkhorse" for the Rams first pick?

He's not a total dark horse, but I'd have to go with Carpenter as well. HUbison pretty well summed it up. He's a true 4-3 strongside linebacker who has experience lining up to blitz off the edge, too. Plus he seems more willing to take on blockers than most.

My darkhorse is Mathias Kiwanuka just because we need an up-graded pass-rush and there are reports that we dont like him

Re: Who's your "darkhorse" for the Rams first pick?

I would love to see the rams trade down with the chargers to pick up Donnie Edwards and then draft Manney Lawson. Two dark horses.
