What is so bad about drafting the best player in McFadden?

Re: Why Not????????
There are a couple of issues to consider:
1.) No one has yet established that McFadden is the "best player." (Kinda hard for me to say that since I live in Arkansas and follow the Hogs regularly.)
2.) Running backs typically have shorter (and often, more injured) careers than other positions. Therefore a team may not get their moneys worth from Darren.
3.) Look at the teams that are in this years playoffs. How many top 5 pick running backs are starting for them? None that I'm aware of. So what's the message? Ya'll don't need a top of the first round RB to win in this league.
Of course there are other point to discuss, but this should suffice for now.
WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Why Not????????
Would he help the squad? i think so. He would also prolong the career Steven Jackson

Re: Why Not????????
But we have so many other needs to consider. McFadden is an obvious luxury selection at this stage, and whilst he could do wonders for this offense alongside SJ, we have more pressing needs along the OL and DL.
Plus, a huge salary for McFadden just won't sit well, especially considering we have to re-sign Jackson at some stage.

Re: Why Not????????
If he can shut off the cutback lane and get to the QB once or twice a game, I say go for it............but I'm not sure he's big enough to be a pass rusher.

Re: Why Not????????
In the draft (and with the salary cap as well), there's always an opportunity cost. The question isn't "would it help the team?" but "would it help the team more than any other move?".
RAMarkable made good points about the value of a runningback. We already have a good one, and only one guy can carry the ball at a time.

Re: Why Not????????
Nothing. The Rams need difference makers on offense and defense. There are no "luxury picks" at this stage.

Re: Why Not????????
how can you say taking a running back with your first pick isn't a luxury pick when you already have a top 5 running back and so many other holes to fill.

Re: Why Not????????
The Rams do not need another RB. Regardless of how well he his doing right now, we do have a RB who can get the job done.

After watching the Gator Bowl, my mind is changed. We got to have Chris Long

Re: Why Not????????
Yeah, Chris Long looked great today. Did he get player of the game, or was it just a stat box or something?

Re: Why Not????????
No thanks, we could have 20 great backs and they would not get anywhere with the O-line and how it is.
It also won't help if the other teams runs for 200 yards a game vs us.
We need to focus on our lines this draft
