Why not trade William Hayes ?????

With Chris Long locked up and Quinn an ever down player for the next 2 years and probably the one guy we want to sign for...for...forever....

Wh not trade Wiliam Hayes? He is a really good player that is getting paid enough for the next 2 years that it would help to get him out ? and he is good enough for teams to want him....

Is his cap hit too much ?

Year Base S. Bonus Misc. Cap Hit Dead
    2013 800,000 1,250,000 - 2,050,000 4,550,000
    2014 2,595,000 1,250,000 - 3,845,000 2,500,000
    2015 3,105,000 1,250,000 - 4,355,000 1,250,000

We could glady use that 3.8 mil somewhere else....This also makes else have no shot in bringing in Clowney......

I am not sure what "dead" means.....but why keep a guy that costs do not equal the snaps he will play

RT, why would we trade him? He comes as a rather cheap and productive 3rd DE who sets up really well for the Rams. We considered it a big win for us last year to be able to sign him to a pretty darn good deal in terms of cap hit for what he produced in 2012(8 sacks, I think). He gives us stablity and a great back up and there's no one whom we could sign for less who'd fit as well as him, for this year at least.

Also, the Dead column is the cap hit if you cut(or trade) him that year. In other words, we would save his 2.595M salary, but take a 2.5M hit... so in otherwords, we'd get $95,000 in savings cutting him before June 1st. If cut with a post June 1 designation, the cap hit would be 1.25M this and next year each. Again, he's not going anywhere. Nor would we want him to, unless you're in the "Clowney 4Evar!" camp.

Speaking as co-chair of the Clowney camp, we'd like to see what's the best way to get rid of Chris Long's gigantic salary.

I don't want Clowney but will the 3rd DE play enough to get that much cash in next 2 seasons ?

even though I agree Longs contract is worth more then hes producing, as long as hes willing to restructure(which I think he has been), I can live with contract. Plus he brings a lot of intangibles to the field and locker room that is a little underrated(toughness, attitude and seems like a team leader)..I also wonder how many extra sacks he might have had this year if that monster Robert Quinn didn't get there first..

Like I mentioned, he got 8 sacks, I think, in 2012, so yes, he gets on the field. I'm not sure how much he got on the field last year, but when we go to a 3DE set, he rushes from inside.

WHo would you have as our 3rd DE that would cost less than him? Seattle was praised hugely for getting Bennett for $5M last year as a bargain DE, and Haynes' cap hit never gets to that level. He's cheap and well worth his cap hit.

If that's the case, give him and Sam Bradford 12 year extentions.

Re: Why not trade William Hayes ?????

I dont think there is a better #3 defensive end in the nfl and his price is reasonable. he plays the pass and the run, can play inside on passing downs, and is excellent insurance against injury. No reason to trade this guy unless you get blown away value wise, which is unlikely to happen in my view. Whenever someone says "trade him," with respect to any player, i think the dialogue is a lot more protective if the post articulates what someone thinks we should trade him for. The point here is that its unlikely we get a really high pick for him, and why trade him for a mid round pick at best so we can get into a bidding war in free agency for another player. Keep in mind that as his contract numbers go up, the cap is going up as well.

NO. Will Hayes is an amazing player. He is solid versus the run but he is also a spark in the pass rush. He is a VERY productive DE and the best #3 in the league probably... Not to mention he is HUGE in that locker room, as many guys have said he is the biggest goof and the funniest guy on the team.

Remember last year when teams that were severely dying for a starting DE like the Lions came knocking on Hayes' door? He turned them down to come back and play as a backup DE and collect 10 million over 3 years.

I'm 100% confident another team offered him more and a job at a starting spot.

Forget down percentage. Look at overall production. Hayes isn't going where.

Rams should trade him for a 1st rounder this year and a first next year.

Re: Why not trade William Hayes ?????

For being a third DE and only taking about 35% of the snaps( I think that's the number somebody else posted in one of the many threads about Clowney) he gets amazing production. His salary isn't huge. He's going into the second year of a three year contract. I see no reason to trade him at all it doesn't make sense.
