Wonderlic Scores from Combine

Here are the full list of wonderlic scores from combine. I don't think they mean too much on the defense side of the ball (except for safeties and middle linebackers). I think they mean more to offensive players, especially those that have to make reads and learn the Rams complicated playbook. The concern is that neither Brown (12) or Barnes (16) did all that great. The average is 21.9 with average for OT about 25, with Center and QB having the highest average position score (read and make decisions positions, followed by TE's and ILB (same read and make decisions). The lowest are the reaction positions (WR, CB, RB). Here are the average scores by position, and then the full list individually. I think in the past the Rams have looked at this favorably (didn't Curtis score high).

I'm real curious to see how many of these Einsteins show up in the Postons' stable.

I thought ESPN was reporting that he made a perfect score. Only the 2nd one in the history of the combine.

I think total score also includes a time component so he might have gotten them all right but took more time.

Actually, the article said he set some kind of record in fastest time too...completed it in a little over 9 minutes.

Well, I won't stick up for the undergraduate program at UM (I went there for Law School), but I also suspect that some of the really low scores come from players who don't even try on the exam because they don't care.

Re: Wonderlic Scores from Combine

so that rb frank gore actually does know that hes playing football right? a score of 6? either he didnt try at all, or its a bad multiple choice test that he just but "a" as the answer for all the questions hopeing for the best or hes going to have a hard time knowing which direction to run the ball when he gets it......." no frank the other way!!!!"

IIRC, Gore was placed in "special education" when he was in high school. He was obviously a talented athlete, but everyone told him he'd never go to college no matter how good at football he was, because he just wasn't smart enough. Well, he made his way into Miami, and according to the story I saw, he's worked very hard to earn his degree.

That apparently doesn't translate on the Wonderlic, but it's a good story.

Gore - learning disability

While we are trashing Gore for being dumb, he actually has a documented learning disability. So it is very difficult for him to do well on timed tests - he is dyslexic plus other issues. Of all the cases, he is one that I wouldn't ridicule. Now the others (especially Brock Berlin - a QB!!!!!) now they are open game.

While we are trashing Gore for being dumb, he actually has a documented learning disability.
I don't think anyone is trashing Gore. Actually I mentioned earlier that he had to be in special ed during high school and was discouraged from going to college. Now he's going to get his degree. In fact, that is something he should be proud of. Regardless of what he does in the NFL, he's already done more than anyone gave him credit for.
