Would Austin & Watkins Be A Dynamic Duo?

Letís say in this scenario we trade the number 2 pick toTampa and now are picking 7th. Sammy Watkins and Anthony Barr are the BPA's on the board. If the Rams decide to go with Watkins what do you think? I was of the thinking the Rams need a big tall physical WR (6'4" or better) to go with Austin. Now after watching Watkins I'm not so sure. He looks like a stud and wonder what they could do together...

It might be too much talent for Shotty to handle. But I'd love to see it.

I like Watkins, but I'm more worried about solidifying our O-line rather than the receiving corps with a top pick.

I agree, although I prefer the Rams to have a big physical WR to complement the one's we already have, I think Watkins is much more of a sure thing than either Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin. The only thing that worries me is Shotty's crappy playcalling not using our weapons like he should.

I'd take Barr over Watkins. No question.

Mathews would make me happier than both, but that's not going to happen.

well since Bradford has been here-- the Rams have done everything EXCEPT get Bradford a legitimate #1wr, and that includes trying to get him OL help.

OL free agents havent really panned out (JLong being the possible sole exception)-- and drafts havent really found the rocks we were looking for.

The so via the mathematical process of substitution and elimination, the only position left that has never been filled and has to be the formula to winning succcess is a #1WR!

But the fact is that Bradford has had success when he's kept upright, no matter who he's throwing the ball to.

While I'm not denying that he would definitely benefit from a true #1, I think solidifying the O-line is currently the more important need. Keep in mind our LT recently tore his ACL and MCL.

Yes, Watkins game-changing ability along with Austin's would definitely make them a dynamic duo. There's no question about that.

However, I'd rather see the Rams use their first pick on an offensive lineman.

Re: Would Austin & Watkins Be A Dynamic Duo?

Sammy Watkins was my favorite player to watch all season as was Tavon last year. So it's pretty obvious that I think they'd make a tremendous duo.

As has been mentioned however, getting Schottenheimer to utilize their skills correctly would be the bigger challenge.

That said, at the moment I think I prefer Kelvin Benjamin because of his size, physicality, and contrast to anything else we have on the current roster. But most importantly, the likelihood of him being available at 13, allowing us to draft both he and Barr, if we so desired.

But Fortu, that would leave us without a top OT.

Not to fret my friends, we could do 1 of two things at this point.

    1. Contingent on the resigning of Roger Saffold of course, we could simply draft the best OG available in the 2nd round. Plug him in at RG while Saffold moves to LT until Long returns. i don't need to remind anybody that there are All-Pro OGs all over the NFL that were drafted outside the 1st round.

Or 2. Couple the 2nd rounder we receive in the trade down with another pick, and trade back into the 1st round to grab the best Olineman left on the board, whether it be an OG or an OT.

    Either way, I'd be ecstatic.

If Schotty can utilize a gameplan that will give DC's major headaches, then I can see that. Having those two on opposite ends of the sidelines will open a lot of space for our other receivers to exploit. Running a pick your poison offense will be interesting.

Yes, they would be excellent together. Sammy Watkins grades higher than Blackmon/Floyd IMO. So if we can land a #1 WR, I wouldn't be mad about it.

? really- are we looking at the same passing game that yielded 1 really good passing game from the Rams last year?

Or a passing game that more frequently than not looks like 15/32 190 yards 1 td 1 int?

and not to mention receivers who seem to drop more passes that caught or cant get separation?

    Bradford's per game averages (2012): 20-34, 231 yards, 1.3 TDs, .8 Int.
    Bradford's per game averages (2013): 23-37, 241 yards, 2 TDs, .6 Int.

    Those are the facts.

Next time, maybe you should research, then post.
