Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
Per mike lombardi:
now we are going to give a lineman a lucrative deal, i dont think we will draft another linemen to a lucrative dealthe rams are expected to sign free agent c/g jason brown "in the coming hours," according to the national football post.
St. Louis has been brown's only visit. The dolphins backed off him when the bidding went to high and at that point the rams appeared to be competing with themselves. Still, they'll have to trump baltimore's $6m-a-year offer.
curry v crabtree for the draft
please grab crabtree
im loving this offseason more and more

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
OT is probably the most important position on the football field. Even more important than a QB. You build a winning team along the front lines on both sides of the ball, not outside on offense. Yes, Curry and Crabtree are both solid players but I have a feeling this regime knows where the bread is buttered and it's on the line. I wouldn't be shocked if the Rams don't go OT in Round 1 but I would be HIGHLY surprised.

As weird as this sounds. I am kinda upset with this signing. I was hoping we would draft either Alex Mack or Max Unger in the second round. I liked what these young guys brought to the team. Plus this means less money to re-sign Bartell.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
if we had drafted either one, there was a chance that they wouldnt see the field (as a Centre anyway) for a couple of seasons...and we would have to sign a cheap veteran...if we sign him we signing a proven player at a crucial position.
Centre is a lot more difficult to play and more important a position than a lot of people understand ..could still get Unger due to her versatility..tho i think they will likely go elsewhere with the 2nd round pick now (that is presuming that this is a done deal of course, which it isnt yet!)Last edited by Ramblin` Ram; -02-27-2009 at 11:19 AM.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
i believe that too.....without a good QB you may not score many passing TD`s but you can still score points through the running game if you have good OT`s but without good OT`s you cant do either!
im still in the Curry camp regardless of that, but thats on the premise that we gonna either trade back into the late first for a Beatty,Britton...or stay in the second and keep Pace.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
Look at the Colts with and without Saturday... it's almost as much of a difference as Peyton and Sorgi. The center is one of the more cerebral players in the game(which is why Cogs sucked at it), and needs to be able to spot a blitz coming from a 3 point stance just as well as a QB in the shotgun. That is why if we can get Brown, who has done very well in Baltimore, having to face the Steelers twice a year as well as his own defense in practice, I will be very very happy.
This opens up our 2nd round pick which I wanted to be Mack or Unger, and so now maybe we could pick up an OT at that spot which makes Curry or yes... Crabtree... more possible, provided that Pace is still on the team and we aren't moving Barron anywhere.
P.S. This is completely off topic, but with all of the rabid drooling over Crabtree, I really kind of hope that we don't draft him and then he ends up just like Gholston last year.

If its true (and I won't believe it until I see a reputable report that he has actually signed), it would be a very good signing.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
Signing a center, which frankly is a more immediate need than an offensive tackle (if we keep pace), has no bearing on our long term need at offensive tackle.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
Think about it this way... if the Rams make this signing, release Pace (hopefully to use the money productively on another position), and draft an OT in Round 1, the line could look like this:
LT: Monroe or J.Smith
LG: Bell or Greco
C: Brown
RG: Incognito or Greco
RT: Barron
That has some real potential. Alternatively, they could keep Pace at LT, and look for a long-term replacement in the second round of the draft.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
That's very true GC, however, my point is that I wanted the Rams to draft one of the top centers in the draft this year. If we one, sign Brown, and two, either keep or restructure Pace, our need for a start tomorrow OT is lessened(Pace gets hurt, so I won't say is gone). Thus, I feel that we could look more seriously at Curry at #2 rather than Jason Smith or Monroe, as we wouldn't need them to be a day one starter. We could grab one in round two and let them have a year to get used to the NFL before starting.

thats not good since raiders are known to just throw money at players for no particular reason.

Re: Yes! Rumor: Jason brown to sign with rams in the coming hours
I don't see anything on Rotoworld about the Raiders.
Right now, according to the PD, Brown is at Rams Park. I don't see how the Raiders, or any other team, could "jump into the mix" at this point.
If Brown leaves Rams Park without a contract, it probably means he'll end up elsewhere. We should know the answer within the next few hours.
