Dorsey is miscast as a 3-4 DL, which is likely the scheme Parcells will want the Dolphins to run. Long is a possibility, but the rush linebacker is the dangerous part of that defense, and depending on how Gholston works out, it may not be as much of a reach as you'd think. Ultimately I think Parcells would prefer to trade down, but I think Gholston looks about as good as anyone else in that spot for the time being. Let's not forget that Parcells drafted DeMarcus Ware to be his 3-4 OLB in the first round (11th overall pick) of the '05 draft when in Dallas.
Can't argue with much of that, but the real question is: Would they want to give #1 money to an OLB? With as much guaranteed cash as that pick garners, Gholston might just end up being the highest paid OLB in the NFL before he even steps on the football field.

Solid point, but rookie contracts are so out of control that anyone selected that high immediately enters into the upper echelon of contract sizes at their position. Look at the contract JaMarcus Russell got - six years, $61 million w/ $32 million guaranteed. That's a good argument to try and trade down, but also one that would hinder a team from wanting to trade up. If Gholston as a 3-4 OLB could be to the Dolphins what Merriman is to San Diego or what Ware is to the Cowboys, that could be an investment that Parcells is more than willing to make. There are few positions in the NFL more valuable to a team than a dominant pass rusher.

Maybe there's not another pick out there. And like I said, once Parcells brought in his draft guru, Jeff Ireland, the move to the 3-4 is just shy of imminent. And right now it looks like Gholston is the best 'tweener in the draft..........but the kind of money the #1 pick is going to command for what could be a workout warrior? It may turn out okay for the fins, but that's a scary proposition. If I'm looking to take Gholston with the first pick, I'd want to know one thing. Were the Wisconsin and Michigan games the rule or the exception?

I don't know if Dorsey would be out of position as a 3-4 DE. Hasn't LSU played a hybrid moving Dorsey inside and outside depending on who has hands down? Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I think they do some.
