You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
In no particular order, the Rams' top needs are as follows:
QB
#2 RB
WR
RT
DT
DE
OLB
CB
To fill these needs, you have the following available to you:
1. Draft choices in Round 1 through 4 (assume rounds 5 and later will be used for depth at other positions)
2. 1 premium FA (choose from players who are currently slated to be FAs)
3. 2 mid-level FAs (again, must be players who are slated for FA); and
4. Fill one of the needs with a current player on the roster.

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
Drafting for "need" only:
1. QB - Colt McCoy Round 2
2. WR - Dez Bryant Round 1
3. #2 RB - Da'rel Scott Round 4
4. WR - Danario Alexander Round 3
I'll edit later with the rest.Last edited by txramsfan; -01-06-2010 at 02:20 PM.

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
My blueprint:
QB: Colt McCoy, Texas (Draft, Round 2)
#2RB: Ben Tate, Auburn (Draft, Round 4)
WR: Malcolm Floyd, Chargers (FA, mid-level)
RT: Ciron Black, LSU (Draft, Round 3)
DT: Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska (Draft, Round 1)
DE: Darryl Tapp, Seahawks (FA, mid-level)
OLB: Existing Roster
CB: Richard Marshall, Panthers (FA, premium)
As you can see, with the assets we have, it is not possible to fill EVERY need. I elected to stick with the current set of LBs. While, in the long run, the Rams will need to upgrade the OLB spot, I believe that if you add Suh and Tapp to the DL, the existing LB corps will be more than adequate.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
Positions of need:
QB
- Round 1, Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
#2 RB
- Round 3, Jahvid Best, RB, California
WR
- Laurant Robinson, WR, Rams
RT
Willie Colon, Pittsburgh Steelers ( Mid Level FA
DT
- Round 2, Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
DE
- Julius Peppers, DE, Carolina Panthers ( High Price FA )
OLB
Derrick Johnson, Kansas City Chiefs ( Mid Level FA )
CB
- Round 4, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Last year he made 14 total tackles (To me showing how much teams decided not to throw in his direction, or maybe just that he was not able to get in on many plays as one interview states), but also made 8 interceptions and broke up 10 passes.Last edited by RamsFan16; -01-06-2010 at 02:06 PM.

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
I like Antonio Coleman but personally think he can be had in the 3rd. If we were mid - late second, maybe... but our 2nd is like another 1st.

Hopefully it Sures up O-line. The Rams Biggest Problem. No QB will survive the way Rams O-line played against whiners.

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
I'm assuming that this year will be uncapped so that severely limits the FA pool. Things change alot in a capped year.
QB- Jimmy Claussen, QB, Notre Dame- Whether they acquire him by trade down or simply selecting him with the number 1 overall pick. The Rams see Claussen as a FRANCHISE QB, and really like what he brings to the table and they select him. Rams Sign Chris Redman, QB, Falcons, vet QB ton of experiences gives you just as much or more than Bulger at a much cheaper price.
#2 RB- Chester Taylor, RB, Vikings- He's backing up the second best back in the NFC when he should be backing up the first best back. He is 29 grooms Ogbonaya who has similar skill set to be future #2 RB.
WR- Laurant Robinson, WR, Rams/ Brandon Gibson, WR, Rams/ Danario Alexander, WR, Missouri- Brandon Gibson and Laurant Robinson showed flashes of being really good players. Robinson will be the number 1 Gibson will be the number 2. Danario Alexander will be drafted in the third because he adds much needed size, red zone ability, and starting potential. Avery moves to the slot. Amendola is the 4th or 5th guy. Foster and Burton will compete for a spot.
RT- Adam Goldberg, OT, Rams/Jared Valdheer, OT, Hillsdale- Goldberg solid serviceable, better as depth, but even better as a place holder which he will be. Rams select veldheer with their 5th round pick. Good lineman are found in the middle rounds and Valdheer can develop behind Goldberg
DT- Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State/ Dorrell Scott, DT, Rams- DT by far is the deepest position in the draft after Suh and McCoy the list goes on. The Rams select Odrick at the top of the second. Odrick and Scott are both penetrating UT that will cause trouble in opponents backfields. Rams will be deep here. Ramsey, Douzable, Carriker, and Gibson will compete for the final 1 or 2 spots behind Scott, Ryan, and Odrick.
DE- Lindsey Witten, DE, UCONN/James Hall, DE, Rams- Pass rushing Specialist 4th rounder and will be the RE of the future. James Hall will initially be the starter at RE opposite Chris Long because Little retires. Rams will also have the versatile Adeyanju and Ah You coming off the bench
OLB Rashad Jeanty, SLB Bengals/David Vobora, OLB, Rams- Bengals are stacked at LB, they will tender Brandon Johnson instead and make him the 4th LB because he is more versatile. Jeanty steps in immediately and plays SLB. Vobora moves over to the weak side. Rams draft Perry Riley with the eagles 5th round pick to compete with Vobora.
CB- Karl Paymah, CB, Vikings/ Bradley Fletcher, CB, Rams- He is an RFA but the Vikings will let him walk because they can tender Benny Sapp their current nickel back and use rookie Asher Allen as the dime back along with starters Cedric Griffen and Antoine Winfield. Paymah and Fletcher are both bigger physical corners who can press thats what the Rams need. I think Fletcher ends up starting opposite Bartell, Paymah is the nickel then, Butler and King compete for the Dime spot. Rams also add Ben Watson, TE, Patriots as receiving TE and red zone weapon.
Here's the result of the off season.
OffenseQB-Jimmy Claussen/Chris Redman/Keith Null
RB-Steven Jackson/Chester Taylor/Chris Ogbonaya
Flanker-Laurant Robinson/Danario Alexander
Split End-Brandon Gibson/Kennan Burton
Slot-Donnie Avery/Danny Amendola
TE-Ben Watson/Billy Bajema/Daniel Fells
LT-Jason Smith
LG-Jacob Bell
C-Jason Brown
RG- John Grecco/Mark Setterstrom
RT- Adam Goldberg/ Jared Veldheer
Defense
LE-Chris Long/Victor Adeyanju/ C.J. Ahyou
DT- Jared Odrick/Adam Carriker/Lajuan Ramsey
DT-Clifton Ryan/ Dorrell Scott
RE- James Hall/ Lindsey Witten
WLB- David Vobora/Perry Riley
MLB- James Lauranatis
SLB- Rashad Jeanty
LCB- Ron Bartell
RCB-Bradley Fletcher
Nickel- Karl Paymah
Dime- Quincy Butler/Justin King
FS- OJ Otogwe
SS- James Butler/ Craig Dahl

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
QB- Tony Pike in the 2nd round
#2 RB- Jerious Norwood Change of Pace bak (Mid level free agents)
WR- Our own Wide receivers Gibby-Avery-Robinson-Danny boy-Burton-Foster
RT- Ryan Cook was a starter he can block well in the run (Mid level FA)
DT- Ndamukong Suh in the 1st round
DE- Austen Lane in the 4th; AV you should look at this guy
OLB- Demeco Ryans premium free agent we should steel him from houston
CB- Current roster- Bartell-Fletcher-Justin King- Q. Butler
I wish i had 1 more mid level free agents cuz i wanted Rod Hood for DB
If i dont use a premium Free agent then can i use 2 more mid level free agents AV?
If so i have Chris Gocong at OLB

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
QB - Try to fill this one in the second round of the draft if the value is there. Tarvaris Jackson and Jason Campbell are not long-term solutions or even short-term upgrades for that matter, but someone like McCoy or Pike just might be good enough to be the future. On the off chance that Bradford drops into the late first round because of injury concerns, we seriously consider putting together a package to trade up.
#2 RB - Jerious Norwood. Speedy change of pace back who could keep the offense moving if Jackson misses playing time.
WR - Vincent Jackson. With a legit #1 receiver on board, suddenly the match-ups all look a little better. Laurent Robinson lines up opposite, and then we either let Danny Amendola do his best Wes Welker impression in the slot or let Donnie Avery do his best Kevin Curtis impression.
RT - Willie Colon. Decent run-blocking right tackle and only 27, but not good enough that anyone is going to throw too much money at him.
DT - Draft Suh first overall.
DE - Jermaine Cunningham in the third round. Yes, we're going defensive line two of the first three rounds, but this defense will live or die on the line.
OLB - Possibly a fourth or fifth round pick.
CB - Bradley Fletcher. He did better than I would have expected for a rookie who didn't even get much time in the starting lineup in college. He has a lot of upside.

What is a reliable source for 2010 free agents? The one I am looking at still has Dallas Clark listed as one.

Re: You be the GM: How would you fill the needs?
Draft:
DT: Ndamukong Suh
OLB: Sean Weatherspoon
OT: Jason Fox
Sign:
CB: Carlos Rogers(mid-level FA)
DE: Ray Edwards(mid-level FA)
WR: Brandon Marshall(premium FA)
#2 RB: Chris Ogbonnaya
Trade my number 4 pick ( wouldnt actually do it but you said i only got 4 rather than all of the rest..) for Troy Smith to the Ravens.

Some of my free agent choices may be restricted, but I'm not sure their club will retain them. I think we'd be lucky to find Damian Williams in the second round as well, but I figrued this is hypothetical, so what the heck!
QB: Sean Canfield (Rd 3)
#2 RB: Jerious Norwood (Falcons, mid-level FA)
WR: Damian Williams (Rd 2)
RT: Kyle Calloway (Rd 4)
DT: Ndamukong Suh (Rd 1)
DE: Mark Anderson (Bears, mid-level FA)
OLB: Thomas Davis (Panthers, premium FA)
CB: Bradley Fletcher (current roster)
I generally use KFFL, and then if I find someone I'm interested in, check Rotoworld's player page for him to see his contract status.
