Re: Do you support capital punishment?
The capital punishment system is a joke in this day and age. It is not applied fairly across the board and some states have severely different laws on what is eligible for capital punishment and what is not. Capital punishment is an outdated form of punishment that dates back centuries. The modern form, is meant to be an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. It should be quick and decisive, and should resemble the way that the person did his crime. The punishment should come swiftly after the sentencing and should be held in public to deter others from committing the crime. None of these is currently what it is.
Today there is so much red tape involved with capital punishment, that it is almost not worth it to even have a death row. The appeals system can last upwards of 10 years, and that is certainly not swift. The death is done by a needle with humane drugs behind closed doors, therefore removing the deterrence value of it. It costs much more to kill someone than it does to keep them alive in prison for the remainder of their natural lives, and it lays guilt on the person who has to commit the killing on the person.
All that being said, I am for capital punishment. I just think there needs to be several revamps to the system. Alot of revamps to the system....but some people just need to die.
