Give Blood
Does anyone out there give blood? I try, but they never seem to want my blood. The Costa Rica trips that I like to make require a 1 year waiting period and then I can never get my iron count up high enough to give blood.
This is frustrating for me. I take a bunch of iron pills, but they don't pump up my blood enough. Some of the PA guys think that drinking ironcity should help, but I am not so sure.
Maybe some of you guys could give some blood. I hate being a universal donor and not being able to give. I have tried twice in the last month and have shown up anemic both times.

Re: Give Blood
I eat plenty of red meat and spinich and black beans and I take two iron pills and a vitamin a day to try to get the level up and I am still below the normal range. A lot of women have problems with iron. My mom and my sister are the same.

Re: Give Blood
I have given blood, and while it is easy and painless it is not terribly convenient to do so. The blood bank maintains pretty much office hours and is 20 miles away and don't like to bother with a donor if they show up too close to quitting time.
But they constantly beg for more donors....

Re: Give Blood
I give blood once a year. I started when I was in high school and we had one day a year people over 16 could give blood so I did it to get out of class. Ever since then I've continued to give it.
