How Do You Deal With Telemarketers?

Although I am on the "Do Not Call" registry, I still get the occassional call from a telemarketer. Over the years, I have used different things to discourage telemarketers.

1. I blasted "Crazy Train" over the phone at full volume through a 300w amp.

2. I kept asking a lady lewd questions...she lasted through 4 questions.

3. I made cow noises at an AT&T long distance guy once.

4. I asked if I got a discount for being a midget. When told no, I blamed them for discriminating against little people.

5. Would you take a survey? Sure, only if you take my survey first.

What do you do?

I ask them questions.

If its a girl
"So how you doin?" You wanna hook up later" You tall or short? Fat or thin? Hot or not?"

If it sa guy
"I"m not gay and don't ask if I'll go on a date with you"

I won't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number on the caller id, so I pretty much never talk to them.

I usually say were not interested, don't want to make them mad if there the people in jail calling.

This only makes sense in Shenzhen or Hong Kong, but try it anyway.

I seldom get a calls anymore since our state activated the "do not call list" and made it officially a non-soliciting state. If I do get a straggler, I simply say that you are making an illegal phone call as my number is on the list. If you call again my next call goes to my attorney :-)

This seems to work wonders!

Sorry, there may be many people who get blown off by me because of this. You can always PM me....that works much better than the phone.

I tried to sign up my number for "no calls" on a site on the internet, but I still get plenty of messages about setting up a satellite dish (which I already have), redoing my mortgage, or calls about vacation packages that they claim I won in a contest that I don't remember entering.

I haven't had any telemarketers since I got rid of my landline and went 100% cell phone. But when I used to get them I'd do the Seinfeld routine:

• Seinfeld (to telemarketer): I can't talk right now. Why don't you give me your home number, and I'll call you back later?
• Telemarketer: I'm afraid we can't do that.
• Seinfeld: Oh, I guess you don't want people calling you and bugging you at home.
• Telemarketer: Right.
• Seinfeld: Well now you know how I feel. *click*

I'm on the no call list as well but still get a few. I try to inform them of this, but it sometimes fails to deter them. Like others, I have hung-up, gotten rude and even threatened legal action.

My aunt gave me an idea similar to the Seinfeld one. She asks them to leave them their phone number and the time that they eat dinner, and she will get back with them at that time. She never gets calls after she tried this a few times and reported them. I think that this will be my approach from now on, since it has worked for well for her.

I had a lot of fun with the mooing. The louder they would talk, the louder I would moo. The faster they would talk, the faster I would moo. It is amusing to others in the room.
