McNabb on cover of Madden 2006
Eagles: Jinx alert: McNabb to grace cover of Madden 2006
04/21/2005
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb will grace the cover of EA’s Madden NFL 2006, according to a report in Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal. The Eagles have no confirmation an agreement has been reached, but have been aware of the negotiations for some time.
The buzz is McNabb is the point guy partly because Madden 2006 will feature upgrades in the passing game, and he is coming off his finest season with 31 touchdown passes. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, on the other hand, had a career year throwing for an NFL-record 49 touchdowns.
McNabb recently became the most popular athlete in Philadelphia, and among the most popular in the nation.
For the second straight year, McNabb was rated America’s ninth most popular athlete in the Harris Poll, which asks the public for its favorite sports stars.
Sixers guard Allen Iverson, who checked in at No. 8 on the list last year, dropped off the list. Eagles controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens didn’t make the top 10 national list headed by Michael Jordan, who hasn’t played basketball since 2002.
Manning was second, golfer Tiger Woods third, followed by Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. The other football players on the list are Tom Brady of the Super Bowl XXXIX champion New England Patriots, at No. 7, and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, at 10.
Brady and Roethlisberger are on the list for the first time.
