Which movie had the best battle scene?
There have been some realistic and intense battle scenes. Some are despicted through actual footage and great editing, and others have the benefit of special effects. Which best brings the warrior out in you?

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
I don't see a lot of movies, but the Battle at Helm's Deep was pretty good... maybe just because I have been a LOTR fan since my 5th grade teacher read us "The Hobbit" in class. I have read the set (4 books) probably 20-25 times since then...

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
Saving Private Ryan was brutally honest in how WWII looked up close, in a Soldier's eyes. Although I loved 300 and their scenes were just incredibly B-A. SPR gets the nod here for its realism.

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
This is an almost impossible question for me to answer. It's hard to top the sheer entertainment value of the "Apocalypse Now" Air Cav battle, the horrific realism of the D-Day invasion in "Saving Private Ryan" or the intense, unerlenting onslaught of the Mogadishu battle in "Black Hawk Down". Not to mention the battle in The Valley Of Death in "We Were Soldiers". Man there are a lot of great movie battle scenes.

Being a history buff, I had to go with the actual footage in "Tora Tora Tora".

Being of Scottish decent (My frandfather came over in 1918 I beleive) I had to take Braveheart. I still cry like a baby everytime I watch it.
What about The holy Grail and the epic battle scene that gets busted by the cops.LET'S GO DODGERS

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
I'd have to say 300 and Saving Private Ryan are at the top of my list, two bad-ass movies. The Helms Deep scence in LOTR is epic as well.

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
Well ... that was a classic, but I have to give my vote to "Saving Private Ryan" as the best and most realistic movie battle scene. On a side note however, I do have a bit of history with Greg's son Jon. Jon Peck and I were fellow cadets at Harvard Military Academy (located in Coldwater Canyon in S. California). Although we were fierce competitors in track, we were compadres in other areas, areas not endorsed by the school staff, let alone our parents. Jon's Dad ( Gregory P.) was frequently away for long periods while filming movies, but redeemed himself (at least in my eyes) by bearing exotic gifts for Jon upon his returns. On one memorable occasion, Jon came to school with a device approximately 6" in length and at least 3/4" in diameter with a solid looking fuse -- aptly named "The Atomic Bomb" This was a fantastic piece of luck for two 13 yr old cadets who were constantly seeking fresh sources of amusement. I cannot honestly say who came up with the idea of inserting the "Atomic Bomb" into a circular hole beneath the door knob in the school tower door atop the winding stairs, (the buildings were located on a rather steep hillside -- which in itself provided ample opportunities for .... I digress) ... Now that I think about it, it was Jon's idea to test the device in the aforementioned manner and I can state without reservation that we achieved astonishing success!! I must apologize for rambling on -- off topic. Old memories can be very consuming ... Anyway, were it not for this thread I would likely not have dusted off these memories ... Jon died in 1975 of a self inflicted gunshot wound ...

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
havent seen 300 yet.
is it supposed to be based on fact ? it looks a little overdone on the fantasy side.
Saving Private Ryan and parts of Band Of Brothers get the more realistic nod of approval. I really wonder if someone would have been that crafty in the 1700s to pull off the one man multi rifle attack in - The Patriot-Last edited by RAM29JACKSON; -06-27-2007 at 12:46 AM.

Re: Which movie had the best battle scene?
I watched -world at war- on public t.v. alot when I was a child. so the reality of the scenes in Saving Private Ryan didnt phase me as much. I had friends in their 20s who seemed to be really phased by the opening seen
